    Will this be possible, i mean, install 3G software on a 2G hardware? They have the same processor etc...

    Someone on IRC was looking into this. It is not as easy as it might seem. If you look at the android port onto the 3G, there were some hardware components that behaved quite differently on 3G so the drivers for these had to be coded differently.

    The part that needs the most changes is the kernelcache. It might be possible to unpack the kernelcache and simply use the kexts from 3.x 2G iPhone, repacking them into a 3G 4.0 kernelcache.

    The other potentially tricky part is that the existing 2G baseband will need to be compatible with OS 4.x

    I think the project might be made more simple by the linux/android port as this has the side effect of better documenting the hardware.
