    Add the following key to under <key>capabilities</key>

    Code:
    <key>gas-gauge-battery</key>
    <true/>

    Save the file M68AP.plist in PLedit.exe and exit.
    as stated in my previous reply, i did exactly what you said. i even included the codes i added. you said there is a new switch under settings afterward? can you include a picture of that new switch?

    your instruction is pretty straight forward, no doubt. but it DOES NOT work.
    i really want to know if anyone else has tried this

    hi gkscit,

    i just emailed you my plist. it has the same codes in the same place as yours
    <key>device-name</key>
    <string>iPhone</string>
    <key>gas-gauge-battery</key>
    <true/>

    in fact, the original plist has the codes in it, so why do i need to add them again??

    This is not going to make any difference. I think gkscit has misread the original post and is trying to help solve a different problem.

    As I understand it, sfaguy wants the battery percentage instead of the battery icon, whereas in firmware 3.x it appears next to the icon. sfaguy seems to be aware how to enable numeric battery, as is clear from the title and first sentence of his original post, but doesn't like the way it looks.

    gkscit has suggested two solutions, but all they do is allow you to get a numeric battery level -- which sfaguy already has, and which on 3.x will always be next to the icon.

    The first solution, adding the key <key>SBShowBatteryLevel</key><true/> to /User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist, is exactly what SBSettings and other utilities do when they enable numeric battery.

    The second solution, adding <key>gas-gauge-battery</key><true/> as a subkey under <key>capabilities</key> in /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/M68AP.plist, adds a numeric battery toggle in the Settings menu at General > Usage. That toggle works to set yet another key in /User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist: a new key <key>SBShowBatteryPercentage</key>. But this has exactly the same fuction as <key>SBShowBatteryLevel</key>. Nice tweak, but doesn't help, and using SBSettings is just as easy.

    The bottom line is: don't waste your time with these suggestions, and for the moment you'll have to accept the situation.

    Jim Danner,

    thanks for clarifying what i posted and validated this can not be done for now.

    thanks for gkscit for all his suggestions even though he'd mis-read the posting.

    Hi all. Thanks for all those keys. Hope these would be helpful. But I am little bit confused to use which one.

    If you want the battery percentage to show up next to the battery icon in the status bar, use SBSettings or any of the 'extended preferences' packages to enable it. On the 3GS, you can simply go into the Settings menu and find it in General... Usage.

    If you want only the percentage (like what you could enable on 2.x firmware versions), install Battery Control.

    hi jim,

    thanks for the updates. yes, i just discovered battery control and it looks like this is a good replacement for numeric battery app.

    this app works great for firmware 3.0
