    Default Newbie questions

    Hi,

I got an iPhone 2G (model A1203)and a Ipod Touch Second generation (model A1288) from my relative, both non working. They both display a USB plug to iTunes screen. The iPhone I can't turn off. It will show the apple logo, then the connect to itunes for a few minutes then reboots. When I turn it off, it turns on again until the battery is dead. The Ipod Touch I can turn off.
I installed windows XP SP3 om my Dell optiplex. INstalled iTunes 10.4.1.10 and connected the iPhone. I can get it into DFU (black screen and connected).

iTunes found a iPhone in recovery and downloaden and restored 3.1.3. Then it gave me a unknown error (14). Then I SHIFT restored 3.1.3, 3.1.2, 3.1, 3.0.1 and 3.0, they all gave me unknown error 14.
Then with 2.2.1 it gave me an unknown error 1600. This is where I ended.

I googled a lot, but every youtube, guide of post is old and with older versions of itunes.
And since I don't know what firmware was on the iPhone and iPod and if they where jailbroken or not (Best guess is they where jailbroken) I'm kinda lost.
So please give me some pointers on what to try next.
    Thanks.

I'm not sure this will help, but are you sure the firmware for the iPhone and iPod is proper? Try downloading the firmware from here, and use the proper firmware for the proper iDevice. iClarified - iPhone - Where To Download iPhone Firmware Files From you should take 3.1.3 or 3.1.2, mostly 3.1.3

Most likely a USB problem, as you have tried a different computer (and I assume you rebooted also) you should try a different USB cable and if that doesn't fix it, get the dock connector daughter-board replaced inside the phone.
