    Default Can someone help me?

I installed "activatemms2g" on my iphone 3g and it is now in a permanent state of reboot... I know it said 2g, but I figured there would be some kind of warning if it was going to mess it up this bad! I was going to see if there was some way to make it work on 3g... but this is just ridiculous...

So here's my question... How do I fix this? In the past when I did something I didn't know how to fix I would just restore my phone using iTunes. But now I cannot do that because my computer doesn't register that my phone is even plugged in. My phone simply reboots over and over again, and stays on a blank, black screen (occasionally the apple will pop up). Is there any way to fix this? I've tried everything I know how to do (admittedly not much).

I would try sending my phone into the Apple store and see if they can fix it, but I have some things on my phone that I wouldn't want the people at apple seeing... if ya know what I mean.

    Can anyone help me PLEASE!!!!

    Thanks in advance

    Travis

here is a couple of things to get your phone into dfu mode:

I'm using 2G iPhone unlocked/jailbroken with PwnageTool. My carrier is T-Mobile and I have the $5.99 T-Zone or whatever it's called.

My regular APN for cellular data is epc.tmobile.com

    For MMS
    APN: [blank]
    Username: [blank]
    Password: [blank]
    MMSC: mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
    MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080

Like others, the only problem is when receiving MMS, the photos are super compressed. This happened with SwirlyMMS also but they allowed you to switch the user agents. I suppose this is better than nothing.

I hope this helps other users and thanks to those who made this possible.

For people who require different APNs for their mobile data and their MMS, there may be a fix for you. I am on a Polish network which requires different APNs and I am able to send MMS and browse the internet. This is what I did:

    1. Install the Cydia package "ActivateMMS2G" and reboot
    2. Go to help.BenM.at on your iPhone
    3. Go to the second Mobileconfigs link, the one that allows you to create a custom Mobileconfig
    4. Enter your MMS APN (i.e. mms.plusgsm.pl) for both of the APN fields (Mobile Internet and Visual Voicemail) and enable tether. My network requires no username or password, if yours does, you may need to enter those as well.
    5. Press generate, install it, press OK, then reboot RIGHT AWAY. Do not check the settings!!!
    6. Go to settings > General and scroll down to profile. If it says 2 (or more) profiles, delete/uninstall the one(s) that are not called "help.benm.at" (i.e. delete all but the one you just installed). If it only says help.benm.at, skip to step 8.
    7. After deleting the other profiles, go back to help.BenM.at and repeat steps 3-5. The first time you try to install it, it may fail or hang while installing (it did for me anyway) if this happens, press the home button, reopen Safari, then try again, it should work.
    8. Once your iPhone has rebooted, go to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network. Your MMS APN should be present in every APN field.
    9. Fill in your MMSC and MMS Proxy. Once again, my network has no username or password, so I am not sure if you should add this here or during step 4... Experiment!!
    10. Reboot your iPhone.
    11. Open Messages and try to send an MMS. If it fails, check your settings are correct.
    12. If it is successful, go back to Cellular Data Network and change your Cellular Data APN to the one appropriate for your network.
    13. Test your data connection.
    14. Test your MMS.

This fixed it for me. It seems that the MMS APN can only be the APN included in the Mobileconfig, whereas the data APN can be anything. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the suggestions That does indeed work for me.

MMSs both sent and received succesfully, tho the received picture is of much lower quality.

Just for grins i DL'd the BBR.com iPhone Speed Test App.

Its reporting the following for me...

    Latency 1127 ms
    Download 41 Kbps
    Upload 6 Kbps

Correct me if i'm wrong but arent those GPRS speeds?

I'm fairly certain i could get Edge speeds of over 100Kbps before...

Indeed, I just reloaded the previous internet2.voicestream.com profile again and now the BBR speed test reports the following...
    Latency 440 ms
    Download 149 Kbps
    Upload 32 Kbps

That jibes with what i remember from years ago when i initially set the data plan.

Oh well, now to choose which i want as apparently i cant get both.

Thanks for the help! I left it in the same USB port, but I just was having trouble getting it in DFU mode. I'm a novice at all this stuff, so this was a bit of a challenge to figure out what the right time was. But I got it.

    THANKS!!!

    Hi Travis,

I had the same issue. The iphone gets switched off after the apple logo. I had to put the phone to dfu mode for the laptop to detect the phone, then i restored the phone. Cant think of any other solution. But after restoring i tried installing activatemms2g and it was working fine. was able to send mms
