That whole sentence made little sense. Can you try and write more concisely and clearly. Not all is lost.

Also please answer the question I asked much earlier. Do you have SSH installed?

Which jailbreak did you use? If you used blackra1n to jailbreak did you install the Afc2Add package from Cydia after jailbreaking?

If it was PwnageTool then your problem is solvable.

    Get and install iPhone Browser
iphonebrowser - Project Hosting on Google Code

Then create an empty file on your computer and call it com.saurik.mobilesubstrate.dat

The file must be empty (a single space character is all you should have in the file). I would recommend using something like notepad if you are on windows.

Be sure when you go to save the file from notepad to put the file name as "com.saurik.mobilesubstrate.dat" including the quotes. This makes sure notepad does not call the file com.saurik.mobilesubstrate.dat.txt which would not work.

Connect your iPhone to your computer via USB.
    Use iPhone browser to access

    Code:
    /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/
    on the iPhone

Copy the empty file to this directory using iPhone Browser

Make sure it is named correctly and in the right place.

Restart your iPhone by holding down sleep/power and home until slide to shutdown comes up.

When you power your iPhone back on you should get a message about safe mode and your apps should be no longer hidden

Need more details on how you disabled the settings icon. The original poster had used a third party tool - SupremePreferences or something like that.

Have you used the built in parental restrictions features to hide the settings?
Have you used a third party tool to hide the settings? If so which one?

    Default Built in permissions

    Thanks for the reply,
Since i don't have access to settings, I don't have the exact name of the tool. It was a built in, may have been the allow restrictions, I had to activate the main button above (allow restrictions) then scroll down and turn off the settings Icon, the web browser icon and the photos Icon, it prompted me for a pass code, I entered that thinking that the Icons will remain there but will require the pass code when I initialize them the next time. I didn't know that this process will remove the Icon totally. Now that the setting Icon is missing, I obviously can't turn the wifi on, activate the appstore, sidia or any of that fun stuff. Hope this answers your question and hope you have a fix. Thanks again

The weird thing is that - using the built-in restrictions options I have never seen the option to hide the Settings app. I know it is possible to do this via directly editing preferences files but I personally cannot find a GUI for this (that is not a non-standard add-on)

Are you jailbroken? If so how did you jailbreak and what iOS version are you running now? Can you access the Cydia icon? Do you have OpenSSH installed?

Settings was one of the applications that I could turn on and off. upon turning off it disappeared. I'm jailbroken, a friend of mine did that for me and i have no idea how he did that. I have 3.0.1 (as far as i remember). I have the Cydia Icon but don't have WIFI access therefore can't download anything. I have the Toggle SSH, it has two buttons only enable and disable, I've never used it before. (if you can walk me though the process I'll be happy to try things out).

One other thing to mention is that i have a version of Ifile that allows me to drill down to a file and edit it if needed. I'm not sure what to look for and I don't have a search option within Ifile. Hope this helps a little. Look forward to your reply. Thanks

iFile is good - it can edit property list files.

Look at iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch: Understanding Restrictions - no mention of settings in that list.

I have posted in another thread here what needs to be removed to fix this - see http://www.hackint0sh.org/f201/105144.htm

Those instructions are for fixing this via SSH, you just need to interpret them as lines to remove/edit via iFile instead of using plutil in the terminal/shell.

This technique ONLY works for restrictions enabled via the built-in parental restrictions feature.

Some jailbreak apps use LibHide (which can be temporarily disabled by entering MobileSubstrate safe mode - that is what I was trying to explain how to do in this thread you have jumped into)

As long as you are not using SupremePreferences - one of the two options listed above should work for you.
