Default Jailbroken Iphone-Erase all content and settings

I have a jailbroken and unlocked iphone 3.0 here. No apps were launching. No calls or messages could have been made or received. To top it off, the power button does not seem to work - the red bar never comes up after holding down power. So DFU could not have been started. Finally, I got really mad and pressed erased all content and settings. After more research, when 'erase all content and settings' is pressed on a jailbroken iphone, it gets stuck in a reboot loop. So every 10 minutes the phone will restart (from sticking on the apple logo) and again stick on the apple logo.

So what should I do now? I read that I could hold home and plug in the usb cable and it should go in recovery mode but that does not work here. Even quickly plugging it in before restart. Should I wait till the battery is drained? or just disconnect and reconnect the battery? Please help

Put the iPhone into DFU mode and restore. There are a few different ways to get to DFU, the simplest is from a shut down iPhone. However if holding down sleep/power and home restarts the iPhone instead of shutting it down then you can still get into DFU mode.

    If you are on windows:
    1. Connect iphone to USB then listen to the sound when it connect and disconnect.
    2. Hold the home and power buttons until hear the disconnect sound then release power button.
    3. Wait until you hear another sound then release home button.

On mac you don't get audio feedback for USB insertion but it can be timed, it's approximately 10 seconds you need to hold both buttons before releasing the power button.

Default 'Erase All Content And Settings' error on my part

So what happens from there? I can get the phone into DFU mode, but itunes doesn't recognise it as the phone I backed up last night! It simply has this phone listed as 'iphone' and there is only one tab at the top called 'summary'. itunes informs you of the usual "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode... etc, etc" but will not show previous backups as a restore option.

How do I/or can I utilise the back up I completed last night before I stupidly hit the 'erase all content and settings' button and placed the phone into a black death white apple logo screen that refreshes every now and then?

The phone is a 3G 8Gb and was running 3.1.2 with bootload 05.11.07. I obviously don't want to complete a regular restore (due to 3.1.3 not being able to be Jailbroken) I am macintosh based and am hoping and praying that
there are a couple of smarties out there that may have a solution for me.

    Thanks in advance
    David

Just to clarify in case you are confused.

There are two different "restores" that iTunes does

one is a restore or upgrade of the OS onto the iPhone. This is what iTunes prompts you to do when you force the iPhone into recovery or DFU mode.

The other is "restore from iTunes backup". This requires an iPhone in a working condition (ie with an OS installed)

"erase all content and settings" removes the OS. You need to do the full restore of the OS before iTunes will allow you to restore the backup.

As you have a 3G iPhone - there are no restrictions with restoring an older OS version like the 3GS has.

Simply option click the "restore button" in iTunes and browse to the IPSW for the OS you want to restore to.

You can also use pwnagetool to make a custom IPSW and then option-click to restore that via iTunes.

Once the restore is complete, iTunes will prompt you to "restore from iTunes backup or set up as a new iPhone" you obviously choose "restore from backup" at this stage.

I have the exact same issues as Xtech. I have a 3GS that was running 3.1.3 with 5.12.01 . I used Spirit to Jailbreak. Unfortunately I used ultrasnOw today to attempt to unlock. The phone went into perpetual search mode looking for phone service. Licke Xtech I became frustrated and went into the settings an deleted all date and settings, and I am now in a White Apple loop.

God I hope one of the genius members here can help me restore my phone.

I have a 3GS most recent bootrom and firmware before iOS 4.0. I JB with spirit, UL with ultrasn0W. Everything was working. Then I erased all contents and settings due to the fact I didn't know that it would wipe the OS. Now I have perpetual boot mode. Can anyone help?

Ok so I have a IPhone 3gs 16gb I bought off Craigslist this weekend, being the idiot I am I've never owned a iPhone before. I hit the restore all content and settings now my iphone won't leave USB/iTunes screen only will boot up to apple logo. The phone was running fw 4.2.1 and worked fine just had all the users info still on the phone that I bought it from. So I downloaded official 4.2.1 ipsw and I'm confused from here. I don't have access to a computer till tomorrow but I'm very knowledged when it.comes to Android phones and windows/Microsoft PC's. I just don't wanna ruin the phone its still factory locked to Att USA I did a imei check. All I gotta do now is download iTunes on whatever PC I use connect 3gs follow instructions and the phone will boot up. I don't needed it to be used as a phone yet I just wanted to use it as a iPod then when I become more skilled in iPhone tech. I'd jailbreak and unlock to have as a backup T-Mobile phone since my galaxy s2 works just fine as of now just was a deal I couldn't pass up $50 bucks for a mint condition iPhone 3gs. Plz if anyone can just forward me to a link that has what I need you'd be a life saver. I joined forum 3 days ago and I feel like I'm reading another language, I kinda got the idea how to do what I need to do but have no idea what programs are needed to do it. I also still have the sim card of the original owner if that helps. Plz I'd love to start iPhoning it up but its so different from Android I'm now officially a n00b again thank you in advance Plz someone help me not brick this phone. Also I have no preference on which firmware I go to as long as its jailbreaks and is unlockable, also the phone was not jailbroken wen I bought it just was on 4.2.1 thanx again....... Troy
