Default iTunes does not allow SHIFT+RESTORE

    Hello,

I've been having a problem since a few months ago that I cannot find a way out of.

When you want to do a restore of a custom IPSW in a iPhone you have to do SHIFT+RESTORE (since I'm a windows user), but my PC does not allow that. It completely ignores the SHIFT key making it impossible to restore into a custom FW.

I'm tried almost anything I could think off (new itunes, downgrade, upgrade, everything) and now I don't no what else I can do...

I googled many things and I found out that I'm not the only one with this problem, and no-one figure a way out of this yet.

Oh yeah the SHIFT key actually works, and I'm on a Windows Vista 32 Bits.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    HP

Please specify the version of iTunes, I'm on Windows 7 RC & iTunes 8.2.1.6 with no problems to restore ipsw (ipcc with little trick too).

It has been like this since one of the last updates Apple release from 7.x to 8.x
I'm beginning to think this is somehow related to Vista, but the PC is from the company and I cannot change to another version of Windows.

Windows 7 & Windows Vista are very similar in the core. Try to completely uninstall iTunes and delete iTunes datas, profiles.

    "%ProgramFiles%\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

    Should fix it.

If you've run the command iTunes should now function correctly.
The command itself does not run iTunes, it just sets the correct flags.

I know, but when I open itunes it remains the same. iTunes ignores the SHIFT and I cannot choose a custom IPSW.

Sorry, that hack is to allow you to restore ipcc files not ipsw files.

Someone else with your problem said that double clicking the ipsw you want to use opens iTunes and then allows you to Shift restore

That I tried along time ago. It opens itunes but still cannot press SHIFT for custom IPSW.
