Have you tried putting the iPhone into DFU mode manually and seeing if the iPhone is detected then?

Have you checked the socket on the bottom of the iPhone to confirm that there is no foriegn material in there? I once had a problem due to a small piece of folded paper that got wedged in the socket.

Im on FW 3.0 and also strugled with the same problem, but Im sure if you do the exact what i say in my post must help you, since every time Apple updater updates the itunes into 9.1 it just doesnt install on my windows XP and gives an error message so I everytime do the above process to re-install back the itunes 8.2.

Or you can try to Restore your computer to an earlier time befor you installed the 9.1.

    Olethros,

I checked the socket and it's cleared. I've been unable to put the phone into DFU mode. I followed all the directions online, but the phone would not go into DFU mode. Before I started having this issue however, I was able to get the phone into DFU mode.

It could be a physical problem with iPhone Weird that it stopped working when you upgraded iTunes. That still points to software problem.

Is it under warranty? I would take it back to apple/where you bought it and see if they can get it to bee seen by iTunes. Then you can rule that out conclusively.

Babikan: I tried restoring the computer to a couple of months back, but that did not help.

Olethros: The warranty is up, but I was thinking of taking it in to the Apple store. I figured if they can't get it to work, then it's prob something with the phone.

    Thanks for all your help!

    Smile Problem Solved!!

    Hello everyone,

I found an old cable I had and I decided to give it a shot before heading out to the Apple store. Lo and behold it worked!! iTunes instantly recognized it and I'm not restoring from a backup.

I want to thank you all for all your time and your help. I really appreciate it.

I should also mention that I removed every instance of iTunes (I had deleted the entire iTunes folder found in Document and Settings...). So I dont know if that had any bearing on this solution.

Good to hear it worked, my intuition says it was the cable. I say this because you said you tested earlier with another pc.

Any problems with permissions on documents and settings subfolders would have been eliminated by my earlier suggestion to create a new windows account and test with that.

Oddly enough I did create a new account and test, but got the same problem. Maybe it was just the cable or a combination of both.

I really appreciate all the help, thank you.

I'm experiancing exactly same issues like iamjose, but in my case it does not work with the new cable. I have tried everything discussed in this topic. Please help me.
I think it has something to do with the phone, because it recognized it when i plugged in my brothers Iphone.
