iPhone 3G, 3.1.2 (7D11), 05.11.07, Tethering Problem.
I jailbroke my phone awhile back using blackra1n when it first came out.
At that time there wasn't a tethering solution for 3.1.2 publicly available that I could find. I forgot about it for months, because I hadnt been traveling like I use to, but the need for tethering recently came up again, and I found a solution online.
It involved downloading a CommCenter.patch file, patching the file using bspatch and your existing CommCenter file, and then uploading the patched CommCenter file to your iPhone.
I did all of this without problem, and when I rebooted my iPhone I was able to turn on tethering under Settings --> General --> Network ...
However, when I connected my iPhone to my computer via USB, my computer didnt recognize the iPhone as a network device. I quickly figured out that was because I didnt have iTunes installed.
I downloaded the latest iTunes, and installed it. I then plugged my phone in, and the Apple mobile device showed up under my Windows 7 networking options. I enabled the device, and then *POOF* the connection disappeared, and the setting was erased off my iPhone.
I tried putting the patched CommCenter back on my iPhone in case Itunes overwrote it somehow, but that didnt work.
What happened and how do I get tethering to work? Please help! Thanks!
After applying the CommCenter patch, did you apply a custom carrier bundle to make tethering work?
