Default iPhone 3G 16gb 3.0 Wifi not connecting

Hi newby here. I have been having some serious issues with my 3G 16gb iphone upgraded to 3.0 with wifi.

First things first.. My friend upgraded it from 2.2.0 to 3.0 and it was fine, so i began installing my themes, keyvibe, winterboard, sbsettings, installous, cydelete, etc, from cydia). I then downloaded some apps to itunnes and sync. Then suddenly i noticed i could not connect to the wifi at my office (Security: WPA2). Decided to change the wifi settings leaving it open (no security) and still no connection (Message Unable to join the network "Network name"). AND NO THE WIFI TAB IN SETTINGS IS NOT GREYED OUT! It is selectable.

Thereafter i borrowed and iphone similar to mine and tried. It worked. My blackberry worked and my laptop. So at this point it was clear that it wasn't the wifi network. I even went to a wifi bar (free wifi) and tried, same error.

Now after doing a bit of research over the internet i did the following:

Reset Network Settings, restarted the phone- DID NOT WORK
Went into settings forgot network, restarted- DID NOT WORK
Hard Reset Phone- DID NOT WORK
Turn the phone on airplane Mode then turned on wifi- DID NOT WORK
Reset Entire Phone- DID NOT WORK
Downgraded to 2.2.1- DID NOT WORK
Downgraded to 2.2.0 then upgraded to 3.0- DID NOT WORK
Wipe the phone completely then installed 3.0- DID NOT WORK

At present i am now running 3.0 and have to be using 3G to download stuff to the phone. I am from Jamaica and this is very costly.

PLEASE assist me in fixing this problem. I have no clue as to the next move.

    PRESENT SETTINGS
    Version 3.0 (7A341)
    Modem Fireware 04.26.08.

Default Widespread Wifi problem with OS 3.0

I am experiencing the same issue on a stock 3G iphone.

And we are not alone with this problem. It is not related to 3GS, as also many other 3G and 2G owners are experiencing the same problem.

There are several threads on Apple support web site with thousands of posts relating the same kind of trouble. Most people posting are using "stock" (unjailbroken) iphone (or so they say ...).

Since this is so widespread and happening on all hardware upgraded to OS 3.0, it is likely a software problem (DHCP or else related). I would be very surprised if the upgrade to OS3 had triggered a previously uncovered hardware glitch ... !

So we need to wait for Apple to issue a fix or releasing OS 3.1.

Perhaps some beta tester of OS3.1 can tell us if the beta release adresses this issue ?

In the meantime, we can still use 3G network for connecting.

    Cheers,

    csdb

    Default Temp Fix

    csdb

Thanks for the response. Glad to know it is not me alone. Anyway you may not believe this but i think i have temporarily fixed the issue.

PUT IT IN YOUR FREEZER!!! Yep, I found this as rediculous as you may now but after days of fustration and a crazy 3g bill i did it.

    1. So put it in a ziploc bag. Seal it properly.
    2. Leave in fridge for 5 to 10 mins
    3. Retry connecting.

    Crazy fix but it works.

DOESN'T WORK FOR IPHONES WITH WIFI GREYED OUT UNFORTUNATELY!

I cannot guarantee that it will work for everyone but it does for me and 2 of my other friends.

Going to put on 3.1 beta friday and will let you know if it works.

As soon as it heats up it, it will drop the network.

So it seems to be a heat issue... Does your iphone run unusually hot? Is your battery life poor?

When you setup Iphone in Itunes – Set it as new phone ( which is the key to come of unexpected battery depletion )

Default iphone 2g OS 3.0 connects to WEP but not WPA2 Wifi

I have this problem with an iphone 2g, unlocked. It no more connects to my wifi network with wpa2 security. I tried my old router with wep security, it connects like a charm.

I tried resetting network settings on iphone, connecting to "other" network typing in network name etc manually. Nothing works.

Did not try the freezer method, but as the wep works all right it should not be an overheating issue.

This phone worked before the upgrade, when it was OS 1.4. Now it is OS 3.0 (7A341)

I first thought I should post this elsewhere, as this thread refers to 3g iphone, but actually this is the iphone 2g forum, the original poster put it in the wrong forum.

There seems to be a WPA2 issue with OS 3.0, independent of 2g or 3g phone .....

I will be getting a 3g iphone today with 3.0, will report on the results.
Of course, my laptop works fine on the wpa2 network

The freezer thing only works for a while.

Now no matter how long i put it in it just does not seem to work.

Did the "setup as new iphone and still no remedy.

Man as soon as anyone finds a fix for this, let me know.

So feedup i am selling the phone. Cannot be bothered with this issue. Got a 3g black and it works fine.

Guys let me know if there is a fix.
