    Default iPhone 2G v2.2 --> v3.1.2

    Hi Everybody,

    I'm new user to this forum but read a lot and would like some advice on upgrading an iPhone 2G (4Gb) from v2.2 to v3.1.2.

    I'm on Orange Carrier (France)
    As it's the original iPhone, I got the original ATT Card

    Why do I want to risk that : It's stable and working fine with 2.2 but it lacks new features and my wife wants them (its her phone, so I better succeed otherwise ---> )

    Some stats :
    ------------

    Current iPhone OS : v2.2 (5G77)
    Baseband : 04.05.04_G
    Hacktivated : YES !
    Jailbroken : YES !
    Unlocked : YES ! (Orange Carrier)

    History of the iPhone : V1.1.2-->v1.1.3-->v2.0-->v2.2

    Last time I upgraded it, I used pwnage tool on my Mac. (don't remember which version but it was a year ago)

    Now, my mac is on 10.5.8
    Itunes is : 9.0.2 (25)

    So, what I'm planning to do is :

    Create a custom firwmare using latest pwnage tool : 3.1.4
    Do a Alt+Restore in Itunes 9.0.2 (25) using custom firmware made by pwnage tool.

    What I want to know, is if I'm right with the options asked by Pwnage Tool

    Launch pwnage Tool
    Click on OK
    Click on Expert Mode
    Select iPhone 2G
    Select iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw
    General :

    * Activate the Phone : checked (not sure about this as its been previously jailbroken)
    * Enable Baseband update : checked (not sure about this as its been previously jailbroken)
    * Next
    * Bootneuter settings : Neuter bootloader checked
    * Update baseband unchecked
    * Unlock baseband checked
    * Auto delete BootNeuter.app checked
    * Next
    * Select openssh package
    * Custom packages settings : check Cydia Installer
    * No Custom Logos for me
    * Build
    * Password
    * Click Yes on : already pwned
    * Close Pwnage Tool and Alt+Restore in iTunes 9.0.2

    Are those steps correct ?

    Do I need to put the ATT sim card instead of my orange one ?

    By the way, if for some reason iTunes doesnt want to restore at the beginning (some xxxx error) is it possible to reboot the phone and be back on 2.2 as it was (Don't want to be stuck and mess around for a brick )

    Thanks for your advice / answers / thougts

    You can turn off/skip this whole section as you are already unlocked on 2.2

    It's called option on the Mac, always has been.. Alt is a windows term. Same key though.

    Depends on how far iTunes got in the restore process.

    Thanks Olethros for answering so fast. In fact, I was expecting one answer from you

    The alt key mistake was made on purpose. Its some kind of watermark to see if I got an answer from a true mac user héhé Hope you don't mind that trick

    So I guess leaving that checked is OK even if I read Baseband is not updated on this version :

    * Activate the Phone : checked (not sure about this as its been previously jailbroken)
    * Enable Baseband update : checked (not sure about this as its been previously jailbroken)

    In fact my main concern, as I did it and had them for some friends and myself are the itunes error. Is there some links where I could check in case I had one ?

    Well I guess it's up to me now ...

    You need activate the phone on.
    Enable baseband update will do nothing in your case, the general rule is that this is safe to leave on for 2G and best to leave off for 3G and 3GS (latest versions of pwnagetool don't even give you the option to turn this on for a 3G or 3GS)

    Most restore problems are due to not being in the correct restore mode, incorrectly installed iTunes or connectivity problems.

    The EDGE toggle never worked well, it just sets the APN to an invalid entry. It is actually impossible to completely turn off EDGE.

    If you are running on a telephone network that does not officially sell the iPhone, then you likely have no data APN set anyway. That usually has the side effect of disabling EDGE.

    Hi Olethros,

    I have "one more thing" to ask you
    I'm selling my good old iphone and I want to restore it.

    Should "an option restore and select Custom Firmware" work with the latest itunes version ?

    Thanks
