    I'm afraid since the hack I do see some worst battery draining.
    However, not extreme as the battery drain I had with the old MMS patch...

    In no particular order...

    @PrinceDwi
    Monitoring tethering data usage is not on my priority list. And trust me, you wouldn't want it, anyway.

    @nathulal, @iPhoneRob
    Enjoy!

    @sofoz
    It might get a little warm during tethering, because there are a few things which must be kept ON.

    @kawamatt2
    Yes, you got it eventually. That readme needs to be opened with word-wrap off and *nix EOL. A readme for the readme would be a little overkill, though...

    @ttg
    "worst" is a superlative. There is little evidence pointing to a real, yet abnormal battery drain.

    I'm not sure what you're trying to say. If you have tethering on 3.1, then I'm pretty confident that everyone around here would like to thank you for sharing it (as 3.1 is out for quite a while now). If you don't have it, but want it for 3.1, then I could produce a patch, albeit untested. However, I would advise against that, because then more people would ask for it, and I would rather not monitor two versions.

    A maintenance release; and hopefully the last one, provided no bugs get reported. Changes:
    - attempt to solve APN type-mask in a smarter way
    - bugfix in automatic installation script
    - clarified some things in the readme

    People happy with the last version of the patch shouldn't be bothered with this update.

    Unzip and make sure you read 00README.txt twice, before you attempt anything.

    Thumbs up Cleanup???

    I don't remember reading anywhere in this thread and it wasn't stated in the instrucions...

    What about the files copied onto the phone? Are they used after the script has been run? Can we delete them? Should we delete them?

    I would also mention that there is a .dll needed from iTunes that connects the iPhone to the computer doing the tethering. I was unaware of how to get my laptop connected and found the answer from apple.com during a search. I had to install iTunes on the computer (didn't have it on the laptop previously). Once iTunes was installed, the phone connected itself.

    All in all an AWSOME hack. Thanks again for all of the hard work!!!

    iTunes's only required when your using USB-mode internet sharing, not BT-mode as the BT profile used is a standard PAN (personal area network) profile used by various devices.

    Successfully modded my 2G with this hack. Now if I manage to get a GPS unit for my 2G, I may sell off my 3G finally (I have T-Mobile US service, so you can understand why...).

    Great work.

    You may delete them, if you want. I just updated the readme.

    GenesisDH is right. You can tether via Bluetooth without iTunes. I am just doing that in Linux: pand --connect bdaddr. Actually that was the reason for hacking BT after all.

    Default Any one try this?

    Step 1 - Start ‘Cydia’ on your jailbroken iPhone springboard.
    Step 2 - Select ‘Manage’ tab at the bottom of your iPhone screen and then select ‘Sources’.
    Step 3 - Select ‘Edit’ and then select ‘Add’. Now enter a URL source. Type ‘http://cydia.iphonemod.com.br/’ and select on ‘Add Source’. Once Cydia has added the source click on ‘Return to Cydia’ button.
    Step 4 - Once the installation is completed. Search for ‘iPhone 2G: Tethering, MMS, bluetooth profile’ in Cydia and install it.
    Step 5 - This app will automatically enable internet tethering and fix issues related to MMS, Bluetooth and Lotus Profile on your unlocked and jailbroken iPhone 2G 3.1.2 firmware.

    Note: You must install this package only on iPhone 2G firmware 3.1.2. Let me know if it works with other iPhone models.

    Understand that it IS the same hack. Why would you want it on your other iPhone models? Yes, it might work on 3G, but would you take that risk? No, it won't work on anything but 3.1.2. This is the danger when you give everything to people. They forget to read. Read that 00README.txt.

    And a small caveat: if you have other tweaks in M68AP.plist (like gas-gauge-battery), they'll be lost.

    Back with another small issue. After installing these patches on a freshly formatted iphone. My APN for the mms still does not stick after i leave the network settings page. Interestingly i can send picture messages but i can only receive them if i am using some other feature of the phone that uses edge. So if someone sends me one it could be days before i actually use edge to check my email or something and then i will get the picture message.

    Also i am having problems getting the bluetooth to work. I have tried to pair with a laptop and other phones with native bluetooth. I always get a failure to connect following the security code.

    Any ideas?

    This thread does not deal with MMS. But because I had an itch I had to scratch back then, I enabled it. So here goes: does the same issue happen with the other hack, too?

    Try to quickly start a PAN daemon on the computer (within 60 seconds or so) after pairing. The PAN/BNEP profile on the iPhone needs the computer be in PANU mode.
    On Linux, issue "pand --connect bdaddr". On Mac, click on Bluetooth icon and then Connect (or something like that). On Windows, I don't know. I tested only Linux and Mac.

    If it doesn't work, then (on the phone): "forget" the computer, stop bluetooth, start bluetooth again and re-try pairing. I never had problems tethering via Bluetooth, once the blue band appears on top of the iPhone. But sometimes tethering might not wake up if the computer is paired already; either that, or my linux setup is fsck'ed.
