    Default Hack does not work

Sorry dudes, this is not working. I have done everything it said in the post. It may be related to the phone being hacktivated or not, I don't know, but MMS is not being sent/received.

I managed to get the APN settings changed to what they're supposed to be for AT&T and I still get the red !.

    Default Update

    Update:
The total patch is now just 1 byte! (+resign)
Power issue *appears* to be solved (Will release new CommCenter tonight)

The issue with carrier settings is still escaping me, CommCenter doesn't appear to be clearing them?

The solution working for me is to set my carrier details in the bundle, reboot device - goto settings > general > network > cellular data network > Reset Settings - they then seem to stick..

    Cya later.

You connect to your iPhone via SSH. Install it using Cydia, then connect to your iPhone's IP (you can get that in settings, wireless, blue arrow next to connected network) using user root and password alpine.

If you're running mac, use Terminal to connect to your iPhone for the first time.
If you're running windows, use Putty.

After you connect the first time, which takes quite a long time... use ForkLift (mac) or WinSCP (win) to connect to your iPhone via SFTP using the same credentials (root:alpine). Then it's a matter of clicking through the paths as described in the initial post. /System ... /Library ... and so on.

You might want to "passwd" to change that alpine password. Also, when chmod 755 CommCenter, it may be easier to do via Terminal/Putty rather than ForkLift/WinSCP.

Hope it works for you, on my 2G this hack did 50% of its job. I can see the photo icon but no MMS received/sent.

Hey man, what do you mean "Cellular Data Network" ? You must not be on AT&T dude.

Good job on the hack though, nice to see it works for some people.

The only thing that would indicate it may have worked is if you go into the Messages app & try to write a message, for a brief second you will see the outline template for the camera button in the Messages app but thats unfortunately it. No MMS.

The Cydia method was "Native MMS for 2G" from the iFoneGuide repository
    &
The manual method is this one in this thread.
Are you on AT&T? I'm on AT&T too, and can't send/receive MMS. However, the photo button is there, and there is also a MMS on/off button in settings.

Nope. Not on AT&T. ActivateMMS2G worked better in my experience. With that & a little tinkering to get my MMS (from bmobile (my carrier)) settings to stick I was able to send MMSs.
However with this hack, the outline template of the MMS features appears for a second & then its gone & no MMS or anything.

Oh I see. Well, as far as I can tell it's all about CommCenter. I replaced the hacked one with the original CommCenter while still keeping the MMS true boolean variable, and there's no camera icon, no mms setting.

I'd try it again with the updated version that's going to be released tonight.

I replaced the CommCenter with the one that was linked by Whiterat in the initial post

Yes, that's what you're supposed to do.

Just to make it clear, I tested which of the two hacks enables the photo button in the messages app. And it is CommCenter, not the plist. Which means that if you don't get the photo button to send picture messages, it's CommCenter's fault.

Whiterat just announced an update to CommCenter due tonight, Oct 21 2009. I'd watch out for that and try it again.

What's the difference between this patch and the MMS patch that was made available a few months back?
