Default How to recover from 3.1.3 jailbeakme boot loop

In the past few days I did something very stupid....twice. I ran jailbeakme on an iPhone 3G running 3.1.3.

Initially, all seemed fine....cydia installed and was working perfectly. But then the phone would randomly reboot in a strange way. At first the apple logo would appear as normal but then weird lines would be visible near the top of the screen and a spinning circle near the bottom(this was all while it was booting and the apple logo was visible). It would then finish rebooting normally so I just ignored it. Then however, when transferring music from itunes onto the iphone it entered a boot loop identical to what this gentleman describes: Stuck in reboot loop from jailbreakme.com – need to recover pictures $25 paypal bounty? | ~ ReviewMyGadgets ~ | iPhone Support, iPhone Troubleshooting, iTouch Support, iTouch Troubleshooting, iPhone Downloads,Webmaster Tips,Webmaster Downloads,

I then attempted to restore countless times from both recovery and DFU mode to no avail...I kept receiving error 21 and another error I dont recall(14 maybe). Note that all these restore attempts were done using a 3.1.2 ipsw which I happened to have lying around. On my first attempt to restoring to 3.1.3 it all worked perfectly...I had my phone back.

However, it was not to be...not knowing that Jailbreakme had caused the damage I went ahead and ran it again, and, within two hours I was back in the same old boot loop. I repeatedly tried to restore to 3.1.3 from DFU but with no success, when I switched to the 3.1.2 ipsw....it worked perfectly.

So the moral of the story is dont run jailbreakme on 3.1.3 (comex should make this clearer on the site) and if you do end up in this predicament attempt DFU restoring to one firmware but when this fails switch to another ipsw.

    I hope this helps somebody.
Feel free to PM me if you have similar problems.

    James

That's a really good point. You can tell comex about that via twitter (I already have but the more who remind him, the better chance he'll bother to update the page)

Did you try iRecovery utility to kick out loop-reboot?

Yeah a quick google says that jailbreakme supposedly supports 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 on the iDevices that can run 3.1.x (ie everything prior to the iPhone 4)

So if the recovery mode scrren is the problem then you should try TinyUmbrella, it has a "kick device out of recovery mode" GUI option - more end-user friendly than fussing around with iRecovery.

Otherwise, if you have genuinely discovered that jailbreakme.com does not work on your iPhone running 3.1.3, try and get the crashlogs off the phone and send them to comex.
