Default How to put in DFU mode with sleep/awake button broken?

I have an iPhone 3G and unfortunatley the sleep/wake button does not work. So, with 3.0, can I put the iPhone in DFU mode?

There were some software solutions for entering DFU mode in pre 3.0 era but more often than not they messed up the phone[nasty brick anyone?]. Since your button is damaged anyway I guess you could consider it but you'll need to find apropriate tool for 3.0. Alternatively maybe removing the phone cover could allow you to manually push the button[or its inner thingie]. Just my 2 cents.

Not sure if this is DFU mode or not, but you can try this:

With the unit powered off, press and hold the home button as you insert the dock connector (USB cord) with iTunes already opened.

Keep holding the home button even when you see the boot logo appear...and keep holding the home button until you see the restore logo appear.

You should now see your unit in the iTunes.

    Good Luck!

Nope, that's the standard restore/recovery mode. In dfu mode the screen is blank.
