Hi my question really lies in the title.
Do i just restore to 3.1.2 and use blackrain?
Some guides say i should use blackrain then blacksnow, whilst others say use blackrain then bootneuter. Any help is greatly appreciatied.

If you unlocked on OS 2.x your unlock remains on OS 3.x

Blackra1n will give you a jailbreak, but you will need to fix some things afterwards (YouTube for example)

I would recommend that you download and restore via iTunes a custom ipsw that someone else created with pwnagetool. You should have no problems restoring such custom ipsws because you are already jailbroken at OS 2.x

    Thanks for your reply, Olethros.

So just to confirm, i just restore it with a 3.1.2. pwned custom ipsw. Even thought i used quickpwn not the pwnagetool. I always thought they used different method of unlocking and were thus incompatitible, but i do know very little.

Please confirm, i love my iphone too much to make a brick of it.

    Do you have a 2G or a 3G?

If you have a 2G, just restore to 3.1.2 and use blackra1n.

To fix YouTube and Push, add this repo to Cydia: cydia.pushfix.info

More info: Pushfix 2.0 • View topic - Free YouTube fix & info

YouTube fix is free, however, Push notifications fix will cost you $5.99 (to his credit, he does provide you with your own unique certificates along with support/troubleshooting)

For Bluetooth, MMS, and tethering, refer to this thread: T-Mobile USA Carrier Bundle

Good luck and report back with any issues or success.

No, like Olethros said, if you were previously unlocked, restoring to 3.1.2 will keep your unlocked status since there is no baseband update to the original ("2G") iPhone.

I'm trying to do the same this as the original poster but my only problem is that I keep getting the error message whenever I try to restore in itunes saying it cannot be restored. I think the problem lies with me having the latest version of itunes installed, itunes 9.

Can anyone confirm this is the case?

This is not an iTunes problem (unless you did not restart after installing iTunes, or you have an improperly installed iTunes)

iTunes 9 should work to load any OS 3.x version. It does not matter what OS your iPhone is running now (unless it is OS 1.1.1 or lower)

Hi astral, have you upgraded your fw? and which 3.1.2. pwned custom ipsw did you use (quickpwn or pwnagetool), if they really make any difference? If yes, where exactly did you download the ipsw?

i'm planning to upgrade my fw too (from 2.2.1 to 3.1.2) using xp.

    thanks !
