Default help upgrading 3.0 to 3.1.2

    Hi,
I need some help upgrading my jail broken iphone 3g 3.0 to 3.1.2 using windows xp. This is my current version information.

    iphone 3g with
    version 3.0 (7A341)
    Modem Firmware: 04.26.08

Jail broke and unlocked using redsnow and ultrasnow.

What is the best way for me to upgrade to 3.1.2 and keep my jailbreak and unlock?

I don't have access to a mac so need a windows xp solution.

What ipsw file I will need to download?

    thanks for the help

Recommended solution is to download a custom 3.1.2 ipsw made with Pwnagetool for your model iPhone. We cant post links to these files on this forum so you will need to Google for this.
Then you need to reapply your ultrasn0w unlock via Cydia.

Most importantly, this blocks the baseband upgrade included in OS 3.1.2 There has been quite a few reports of problems with wifi in OS 3.1.2 this might be linked to the new baseband which once upgraded to cannot be downgraded.

This approach allows you to downgrade to 3.0 again if you find problems with 3.1.2 (unlikely)

It might seem like a lot more work, but it is a better solution than blackra1n/blacksn0w

Thanks for your answer Olethros that really helps. I will give this approach a try.

I have one question. Since I first posted this I have been able to gain access to a Mac with OS X on it.

If creating my own custom ipsw using pwnage tool and donít want to upgrade my baseband, which ipsw file would I need to download to start the process? Should I start with apples restore ipsw or would I still need to start with a custom ipsw?

    Thanks again.

Pwnagetool is smart and will only let you start with an original apple ipsw. You can find links to directly download the firmware you need from this page Firmware - The iPhone Wiki

I want to upgrade my iPhone 3g that is currently unlocked/jailbroken on 3.0 to 3.1.2. I'm afraid to download the new baseband and do the blackra1n/blacksn0w method since so many people seem to be having problems with it. I'm on 4.26.08.

So, I want to make sure I do this method without screwing up. So I downloaded a custom ispw from the site linked above...(I hope its the right one, it was the one under iPhone 3g with version 3.1 but it says the 5.11 baseband, which I don't have, so would that be the wrong file?)

Now do I just put my iphone in recovery mode (I tried holding the home and sleep/wake buttons but the phone just turns off and I never get a message about itunes detecting a phone in recovery mode....?), then hit shift and click restore in itunes but select the custom ispw?

thanks! Oh, and I'm on Windows XP

Stop, this will NOT work. You will get the new baseband.

The link above is ORIGINAL apple IPSWs, unmodified.

This forum does not allow links to modified/custom IPSWs. We can only link to the original apple hosted unmodified IPSWs.

You need to use pwnagetool to create a custom IPSW from the original IPSWs listed on that page.

On Windows, custom ipsw only works if you are already jailbroken.

Is your 3GS running the baseband version 05.11.07? I have already replied with more details in the other thread.
