    Exclamation A few questions...

K i got a few questions (incase you didnt know lol). My buddy has a TurboSim in his Iphone 3g and it works pretty good. Sometimes he has to put the sim in his old phone and then back in the Iphone for some reason...but whatever. Hes on T-Mobile and has picture messaging on his plan.

Is it safe to upgrade to OS 3.0? Its not gonna mess anything up as far as the TurboSim goes right?

So if it is safe to upgrade...and i understand that ATT doesnt have full support for picture messaging in their plans for subscribers using the Iphone which OS 3.0 enabled MMS messaging for...
can my friend with his TurboSim'd Iphone 3g on OS 3.0 or newer with T-Mobile receive picture/vid messages? Ive been wonderin about that since i thought the OS supports it.

    Any help would be awesome!

I had a TurboSim before, but it stopped working. Some iphone baseband versions can be problematic with some TurboSim.

The iphone can be unlocked without the TurboSim, you have to do the jailbreak and after you can install UltraSn0w to unlock it. iClarified has very good tutorials, just follow them.

If T-Mobile support MMS he will be able to send pictures, but I think vid messages are restricted to the 3GS model.

he got the turbosim because there was no software unlock at the time he got his iphone 3g with the newest baseband update/firmware. That has changed now but the question remains. I understand now he can send pictures but would an unlocked iphone 3g on t-mobile network ,with picture-messaging on the plan, be able to RECEIVE picture test messages?

Sure, if t-Mobile support MMS (picture messages) he will be able to receive them.

cool thanks for that. anyone else have firsthand experience testing this?

another question remains: is it safe to upgrade to newest OS version with the TurboSim? I suppose if it stops working he can always use UltraSn0w right?

Well, I use a non official carrier (Vodafone Spain), and I used the Carrier Bundle Generator from volkspost (http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/f127/78031.htm), and it works fine.

Probably, the TurboSim will stop working. Form me, UltraSn0w is cleaner and works better than TurboSim.

Once you upgrade TurboSim will stop working, but you have ultrasn0w, so no problem.

You have to put the settings from t-mobile into the APN settings tab.

Yes, you need the operator configuration for MMS. On 3.0, setting for MMS are in Settings -> General -> Network -> Mobile data network -> MMS. You should configure the following:

    APN: wap.voicestream.com
    Username:
    Password:
    MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
    MMS Proxy 216.155.165.50:8080
    MMS Max Message Size:
    MMS UA Prof URL:

Also, do not forget to enable MMS in Settings -> Messages -> MMS messaging
