Default Endless reboots and no itunes

I've been fighting this for the last few days and can't seem to find a solution.
    First some details.
    iphone 3G
Windows XP (but tried on vista and a Mac)

When I restore my phone to 3.0 software, from DFU mode, Itunes will recognize it long enough to restore the software, but when it's supposed to reboot and come back into itunes to allow me to restore or setup as a new phone, it instead just reboots over and over again. I receive various Itunes error messages that state it can either not read from the device, or error code 1600 or 1013 depending on what firmware version I'm trying to restore. I can instead, proceed to Jailbreak it, using redsn0w, and get it to load. However, after jailbreaking, I get no service and it won't let me sync to itunes. It just reboots once I plug it into the PC. I tunes gives me an error saying it can't read from the device. I can apply the ultrasn0w and it will immediately get me service(I'm still on AT&T).

I've tried restoring to firmware versions from 2.02 to 2.2 to 3.0 to 3.0.1 and all have a similar result. I really don't need the phone unlocked, but it appears it's the only way I'll get cell service, but I also need to sync my apps and music. Anyone have any suggestions on what to try?

At this point, I'd be happy without it being jailbroken, but either way I'd like to have a phone with music and apps on it.

Thanks in advance for any help

Interesting new discovery. I live in northern CA and it's been rather warm lately. I finally got my phone working, for a few hours, but as soon as I took it outside I noticed that it started the whole endless reboot cycle again. In the car, I had the A/C blowing on the phone the for ~5 min, and the phone stabilized. I did a couple more experiments and it seems a big portion of my problem was heat related. Placing the phone in a cool location seems to keep it from entering the endless reboot phase.
