    Default Enabling MMS through .mobileconfig (on 3.0 GM)

    Hey,

    Im on Vodafone India running 3.0 GM..

    I managed to change the APN to www and enabled Tethering using a mobileconfig file from here.

    Question is, how do I enable MMS through the mobileconfig file as well?
    I dont mind using a Custom IPCC if somebody can guide me to making one.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ad1tya.

    You can create your own configuration profile and apply it to firmware 3. Download
    iPhone Configuration Utility 1.1 for Windows
    or
    iPhone Configuration Utility 1.1 for Mac OS X
    from Apples server, create your profile with matching APN/user/password.
    Then use Property List editor (Mac, included with Developer tools) or another tool to edit XML-based files and edit it.
    For enabling tethering add type-mask = -2
    Save the profile and send it via mail as an attachement, open the e-mail on the iPhone and apply the attachement (profile).

    The profiles will only allow to manipulate stuff inside the APN specs. I am able to just enter the MMS details for my carrier on the iPhone.

    MMS settings have to be set in Settings > General > Network > mobile data

    Hey,

    Yeah we have very decent plans. We do have Voice SMS as well as prepaid data, although its like Rs.100 to activated it, and then Rs.5/mb of download will go from your balance.

    Vodafone Prepaid Mobile Services-Postpaid|Data Cards-Prepaid Recharge-Calling Cards India, you get all the info you need there.

    @ Volkspot, What do I need to add to the mobileconfig though?

    Currently it looks like this..

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

    ive also tried to integrate mms settings into a mobileconfig.

    i know how to add mobile internet AND voicemail settings.

    but i have also not found a solution for adding mms settings in the mobileconfig too.

    ive tried to make some parts the same as in a ipcc but nothing worked

    I have tried that a while ago, it does not work. The new specs from Apple are online on how to deploy the mobileconfig files for 3.0, no change in terms of carrier bundles /APN stuff.
    The only way to go still is an ipcc file.

    @volkspost

    so regarding ipcc files, will your carrier bundle generator for 2.2.1 found here still work for iphone os 3.0? did apple change any ipcc specs?

    if so will you update your generator for 3.0?

    so many questions still.
    i tried a lot of mobileconfig files out there on the internet, even modified one myself. in the end i didnt get tethering to work at all on my factory unlocked iphone 3g with vodafone germany.

    now im back to a freshly restored 3.0 with manually entered mobile data settings. mms is working, tethering not even a menu option.

    as vodafone germany is a non-supported carrier im assuming my iphone is running on some generic carrier bundle. in 'info' it says 'carrier 4.0'.
    browsing through apples download server i cant find a vodafone germany carrier bundle nor a somehow titled generic bundle.
    i also think i couldnt count on any carrier bundle updates in the future.

    so my preferred solution would be to get a hold of the carrier bundle my iphone is using right now and just modify the settings to allow tethering and mms. waiting for the jailbreak...

    in the meantime is it also possible to use volkspost's generator for 2.2.1?

    what about the type-mask value? i see people keep using negative values, on the other hand i found this:

    confusing. thanks in advance for some answers.

    @phoeny
    The current ipcc generator will only work for firmware 2.2.1, I am working on a version for firmware 3.
    Creating those ipcc files is not a problem, a beta is already working for me. the problem is: we are still not sure about the values for type-mask. None of the models we have (inclusing the one you mention) are matching to the new carrier bundles we see today. I have not seen negative values any longer but also numbers different from the one's in the table.

    On weekend I will inspect all the ipcc Apple has right now and hope to find out the matching. The problem is, even with Apple-partner carriers, some allow MMS&Data, some MMS/Data/Tethering/VVM..., some have the same APN for all services, some different. All those variables somehow "make" the type-mask we need.

    Right now I have seen more values in Apples current ipcc files that we have in out tables - sty tuned, I'll post updates as soo as they are available.
