Default Enable MMS 3.1.2 Tmobile loses web access??!!!!

Man this is frustrating! I have a 2G tmobile iphone running 3.1.2. My normal network settings for APN is: internet2.voicestream.com. I have the internet plan with Tmobile. Wap.voicestream.com does not work for whatever reason. SO, today I downloaded the 'Enable MMS 2G 3.1.2' app and with the 'reset' settings in the network for MMS (ept.tmobile.com) my APN for my cellular network changes as well to the ept.tmobile.com. This gives me the ability to send and receive MMS flawlessly BUT I lose my web access completely! When I try to access the web it says web2go something rather 'please subsribe to a data plan'. Problem is I have a data plan and it works fine unless I use the reset settings for enable mms to work.

When I change my cellular APN back to internet2.voicestream.com the APN for MMS goes blank. Then if I add internet2.voicestream.com to the MMS APN I can't receive or send MMS at all. It gives a red exclamation point. FRUSTRATING! Its like I either can have web access and NOT have MMS or have MMS and NO web access. HELP! How can I get it to work for BOTH?! I need all the help I can get from all you experts who frequent this forum and have mad skills. :-)

Thanks for your help in advance you guys rock.

Interesting. I haven't had this problem at all. I also have Tmobile and I am running it on a 2g 8gb iPhone. Here's what I'd do.

Restore your iPhone. If it's already unlock, jailbreak it. You should be able to make calls and receive normal sms messages Out of the box without anymore settings.

Now, on Cydia, add the following source: SiNfuL iPhone Repo
On this source, look for Enable MMS for 2G & 3.1.2 firmware. You said you already added this, but I'm assuming you added AFTER you set up the APN for web access. Don't. Add this package, reboot your iPhone.

Go to settings > general> nework> Cellular Data Network.

Here, both the apn for cellular data and MMS should be blank. That's ok. The only thing you'd have filled already should is MMSC, MMS PROXY, MMS MAX MESSAGE SIZE, and MMS UA PRO URL.

After hitting the Reset Settings button, you should automically get both apn's filled. This will get you MMS working AND Internet access.

I'm not sure, but I get a feeling you were manually adding either APN.

P.s. I think oth apn should be the same in order for the 2g on tmobile to work.

    Here's more info.

I appreciate your help, thanks for the quick reply. However, I followed your instructions and I'm still not able to do both. I also followed the directions on the Sinful website but when I try to change my cellular APN settings it then takes away the ept settings for the MMS.

By any chance, haveyou installed any other package that has to do with mms?seems like there's a conflicting package that isn't allowing you to change yor apn. I will reiterate that on a 2g, on tmobile, Both apns should be the same. I'll see if I can find the page where I got that I formation.

Another thing that might be causing you an error, is the custm firmware you are using. Which one are you using if I may ask? After a complete restore and jailbreak, web access should not work. When you install the package from sinful repo, both mms and web apns should be reset to tmobiles default.

Default MMS and Internet for 2G with different APNs

I too was frustrated with this issue and I threw a hail mary pass to solve the problem, as there wasn't any reliable info out there that I could find. I have an iPhone 2G on T-Mo running 3.1.2. I have the exact same settings and the exact same problem.
I've resolved it and now I can have two different APNs that stick. MMS and internet on my 2G? It's more likely than you think.

    Here's the solution.

Make sure you've already enabled MMS with the sinful iphone hack. (which you say you did, just don't uninstall it.)
Make sure you uninstall any carrier bundles you may have tried through cydia. Also remove any profiles on the phone, if any. You'd find that under settings/general/profiles if they exist.(you probably don't have any)
Go under settings/general/cellular data network and reset your settings then reboot.
Using Safari on your phone, browse to help.benm.at.
Scroll down to where it says "mobileconfigs" and create. Click on "Create" and it will tell you to enter your APN info. Enter your mms APN, which for most of us is wap.voicestream.com. Leave the username and password blank. There is also a visual voicemail APN option, which I left blank as we don't have VVM. I opted to enable tethering, though I'll never use it.
Then click on submit and it will take you to a screen where you will click on the install button.
    Once installed, REBOOT first.
After rebooting, go to settings/general/cellular data network and make sure you DO NOT change the MMS APN. You should change the MMSC and proxy info. You will see that the MMS APN has populated both the Cell Data and MMS APNs. Don't fret. You are able to change the data APN to internet2.voicestream.com and it will stick.
REBOOT after filling in your settings.
You should now have internet2.voicestream.com for data, and wap.voicestream.com for MMS.

Hooray! This worked like a charm for me, I think this particular configuration is a bit unique because what a pain it was to figure this out after scouring forum after forum. Hope it fixes some problems for people.

Updated T-Mobile USA carrier bundle is out. iPhone 2G users with the new Bluetooth, MMS, and Tethering hack can now have two different APNs (that stick) for data and MMS.

Either use the ipcc or wait for it to show in Cydia. Version 1.0.11.
