update, was restoring back to 2.2.1 and got the error 1013 after the restore was done, u knw, iphone could not be restored unknown error 1013, everything was good, then tried the irecovery, but turns out that irecovery is not compatible with firmware 2.2.1, got all kinds of errors and when typed fsboot it said root file system mount failed. So, i believe i coud go down, but need a way to get the phone out of dfu mode to boot the phone. in the meantime i'm stuck on the 3.0

There is some info in this thread. downgrade 3.0 beta to 2.2

Also I think you can use quickpwn to push the phone out of recovery mode under OS 2.x

Never restore from backup if you are jailbroken and want good battery life.

The reason your phone is going back to activation mode is because restore from backup is restoring an invalid wildcard_record.plist

You can fix this but it is likely you will encounter other problems also. The restore from backup is not designed or tested for restoring a backup from newer OS to older OS. It is also not designed to restore a backup from a jailbroken phone.

I would recommen setting yhe phone up as new then use a tool that can extract files out of the backup and instead restore these files manually via ssh.

    Blackra1n

Also, you might think your backup only includes contacts but it actually includes so much more

It includes iPhone settings, saved data from appplications you have installed (like high scores). There is also call history, SMS recoeved/sent/draft and a lot more.

Some of these files have changed structure between 2.x and 3.x a good example of this is the SMS database. I cannot guarantee that apple has coded support for downgrading these kind of files to 2.2.x in the restore from backup process. I do doubt it though.
