Default Contacts and Calendar lost after 3.0 upgrade

just updated from 2.0.1 to 3.0, used redsn0w and my contacts & calendar entries were gone!
so i restored my last backup, the phone reboots and shows the apple bootlogo + progress bar.
problem: the bar hangs at ~1/3 for hours!
i can reboot with home+powerbutton but same procedure starts over again.

    HELP!

Restore as a new iPhone. The 2.0.1 firmware had problems with the backups. It's better to restore as a new iPhone when having a 2.0.1 backup. The contacts should be still saved on your computer in either Address Book (Mac) or Outlooks Address Book (Win).

You mean FIRST select 'setup as a new phone 'and THEN restore from the 2.0.1 backup?
I can't do both at the same time, can I?

Maybe someone can give some information on how the backup & restore process works. Does iTunes or the phone itself convert the .sqlitedb files into the new format? What needs to be considered when manually SSHing the backup files onto the phone?

No restore to the 3.0 firmware. And set it up as a new phone. You can delete the old backup from firmware 2.0.1 as it's broken!

All your contacts are stored in the outlook addressbook so they should not disappear. All the Music and AppStore applications are stored in iTunes.

Don't like this solution very much, as I'd loose all other data (SMS, AddressbookImages,...)

If I restore the backup to a 2.x phone, it works perfectly.
    This SUCKS!

As I said. The firmware 2.0.1 hosed backups for many. You might want to update to 2.2.1 and see if it works better and then update to firmware 3.0. But as you have problems now I doubt it will work any better. The addressbook images can be backuped as well. So I would do that. SMS will disappear though. But I would rather have a working phone than 1 year old sms messages.

I had the same problem going from 2.0.1 to 2.1 -- here's what I did to fix it (though, as always, YMMV):

    1) Upgraded to 2.1 from 2.0.1. Whenever I'd do a restore of the actual iPhone data it would give me the ASOD afterwards.
    2) Downgraded to 2.0.1 from 2.1
    3) Made another full backup from iTunes after renaming my old backup folder
    4) Upgraded to 2.1, told it to set up as new iPhone.
    5) Shift-restored 2.1, told it to set up as a backup from my old iPhone (the one I made in step 3).
    6) Poof. All my databases made it to 2.1 and I didn't lose my SMS history or call log.

Let me know if this works for you!

EDIT: To be clear, here's what I'd try:

    1) Downgrade to 2.0.1
    2) Rename your old backup directory (do not delete!)
    3) Upgrade to 2.2.0 and set up as a NEW iPhone
    4) Shift-Restore to 2.2.0 and set up as a restore from backup. (This should clear any problems with the backup itself you may be having)
    5) Ensure your phone has all of the data
    6) Upgrade to 3.0 and set up as a restore from backup.
    7) Ensure your phone has all of the data
    8) Redsn0w
    9) Woot!
