Default can't sync 2g 3.1.3 after unlock, Lockdown file update

    Hi all,

I have an old iPhone 2g running 3.1.3. I jailbroke it with Spirit, installed Bootneuter, flashed it, and Bootneuter reports that it is unlocked.

When I try a different SIM in the device, I get the "Different SIM detected" message.

So I tried updating the files in /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown with the hacked ones. With the new files in place, the phone won't sync to iTunes, it reports "unknown error" 0xE8000001.

If I restore the old lockdown files, it syncs fine.

I have seen some posts that say I need to jailbreak it using redsn0w with a non-ATT SIM inside. But I'd like to have the option of putting in a local SIM when traveling. Would I need to jailbreak it for every new SIM?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    -Eben

The reports are mostly correct about jailbreaking with a non ATT-SIM inserted. Your problem is that Spirit (by design) doesn't include hacktivation.

    Try to add:

Cydia.pushfix.info to Cydia and then install the hacktivation patch from there. This is the ideal solution as you get correct push certificates this way.

If that doesn't work. Restore to 3.1.3 and jailbreak using redsn0w 0.9.2 redsn0w 0.9.2 [iPhone Dev Team] with a non at&t sim inserted. Remember that even though you are running 3.1.3 - redsn0w expects a 3.1.2 IPSW - download that here: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm

    Hi,

    Thank you for the suggestions.

I tried to install the hacktivision patch, but alas it is not compatible with the 2g iphone. "Your device is not supported by this package."

Do I need to restore the original 3.1.3 to get redsn0w 0.92 to do the correct unlock when jailbreaking? It does permit you to just select "unlock" from the dialog.

    Regards,

    -Eben

I don't think unlock is your problem - it is hacktivation (this is always separate to unlock)

The simplest option is to restore to 3.1.3

Download 3.1.3 and 3.1.2 IPSW from here: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm
Download redsn0w 0.9.2 from here: redsn0w 0.9.2 [iPhone Dev Team]

(mostly) follow the procedure here iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.1.3 Using RedSn0w (Windows) with your non AT&T SIM card inserted.

I suggest you follow the pictures where the pictures and the text don't agree.

Select only "install cydia" at step 7
    Skip step 8

Yay, it's unlocked now, and works on T-Mobile.

So, the process to get it truly unlocked was:

    - Restore to 3.1.3
    - Use redsn0w to jailbreak and unlock with a non-ATT SIM installed. That installed the correct hack to prevent the alternative SIM message, and also permits it to sync with itunes.

    Thanks all!
