Hint: you don't need to unpack/unzip IPSW files, they should be supplied to redsn0w, pwnagetool and iTunes exactly as they were downloaded.

Thanks, I tried again, but redsn0w (or any of the other unlock programs) don't see the unzipped os file: it is looking for an x.iswp file? Am I still doing something wrong?

Do NOT unzip the file. You need to download the IPSW (without changing it at all) and then when redsn0w asks for the IPSW - you simply browse to the .ipsw file

If your web browser tries to unzip it automatically during download - either turn off this feature or use a different browser.

Thanks Olethros. That didn't work as redsn0w wants to see a .ipsw file. But after searchin and searching, I found the answer under GENERAL from 2007: Untick 'Hide file extensions' in a Windows (Vista) window under 'Tools>Folder Options>View' and the rename the .zip file to a .ipsw. And Voila! It changes into a .ipsw file, little icon and all! Thanks for all assistance. Great work...
