Default Automatic timezone adjustment on T-Mobile (US) gone?

Since upgrade to 3.x my phone does not adjust to timezone as I travel. The menu to set up the Automatic adjustment is also gone. Apparently I am not the only one either:

    http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum...ile-51081.html
    http://modmyi.com/forums/t-mobile/69...ne-update.html

I personally think it's got something to do with the TMobile carrier bundle... I think our phones are using the Unknown Carrier.bundle (as seen in ~mobile/Library by the Carrier Bundle.bundle link). I have "injected" a T-Mobile postpaid bundle/ipcc file (from http://modmyi.com/forums/t-mobile/65...er-bundle.html) as well, but it's done no good. The Carrier Bundle sym link still points to Unknown. I have a hunch as to maybe why the injected ipcc file I got does not work but not 100% sure. The ipcc file shows a Supported Sim = 310260 and the symlink is for 310260. But according to the another site (ipcc generator http://www.volkspost.info/ipcc_fw3) the MCC/MNC code that make up the Supported Sim value for T-Mobile (at least on my phone) should be 31026. I'll create a custom ipcc file later today to test this out to see if it makes a difference.

Anyhow, not sure if I am on the right track, but looking for any other ideas...

It's all in the carrier bundles. Check the MCC/MNC your iPhone is using and use it when creating a custom bundle:

Start the Phone app, switch to the keypad and type *3001#12345#* tap the green dial button then. Field Test Application opens on the iPhone. Goto "MM Info" -> "Serving PLMN" and look for "Mobile Country Code" and "Mobile Network Code".
Whats the values for "Mobile Country Code" and "Mobile Network Code" you are getting when doing the above? If they dont match the value in SupportedSIM the bundle wont work at all.

One more: there are two optional fields for additional mcc/mnc entries. If unsure just use 310260 and 31026

The only important thing is that one matches the real mcc/mnc your carrier wants. Cause both symlinks point to the same bundle it will work then - if it is 310260.

I have seen ppl on tmob in other regions in the US using different mcc/mnc's. You have to find out

I have been digging a bit here
    http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/657335-1.html
    and
List of mobile network codes in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    So T-Mobil uses
    310-260 T-Mobile
    310-170 T-Mobile (former Cingular Wireless CA/NV)

maybe even more. So it is important for you to find the MCC/MNC your carrier uses, Filed Test is the app to check with

When i go into field test, my menu strcutre is a little different. I have to go to GSM Cell Environment -> Cell Information -> Service Cell. there I see

    Mobile Country Code 310
    Mobile Network Code 26

That's how I came up with 31026 which seems to be different than the ipcc files I found that use 310260.

I'll create the custom bundle with 31026 tonight and let you know how it goes. Thanks.

I created a custom ipcc using the generator and included both mcc/mnc codes in there. Injected the file and it created two sym links (31026 and 310260). Rebooted the phone, and it still seems to default to the Unknown bundle and no automatic timezone adjustment menu...

Try swapping in another carrier's sim card, waiting a few minutes and then swapping back in your sim card. This supposedly works more reliably than a restart.

Wil try that this weekend and report back. Incidentally, can someone shed some light why 3.X is having this issue? Did the dev team use to include the custom TMobile bundle in previous versions, but forgot/stopped to do so as part of 3.X? It might be useful to understand the root cause of the problem as it relates to the 2.x -> 3.x migration. I never had this problem until 3.X came along...

Also, can someone explain the difference between the Operator Bundle.bundle link and the Carrier bundle.bundle link in ~mobile/Library? I have deleted both links and rebooted. Afterwards, the Operator link gets mapped to the 310260 custom bundle automatically, but the Carrier link gets mapped to Unknown bundle. What's the difference and why would one match TMobile supposedly and not the other?

Nope the dev team never included a US t-mobile bundle, maybe you installed something from Cydia that fixed this.

The whole carrier/operator thing is relatively simple if you think about the way the mobile networks are built and run.

Basically, an operator has their own physical mobile spectrum. This operator can act as a carrier on their own spectrum or sell access to their spectrum to other companies that want to operate as carriers. Generally each carrier has their own sim cards.

So the iPhone logs on to the network with a sim card from the carrier, it receives two mobile network codes, one for the operator (the network) and one for the carrier, these are matched with bundles and symlinks created.

For example, my 2G iPhone is on Tele2 Norway which is a carrier (24204), the operator is Netcomm Norway (24202), so I need bundles for both Netcomm and Tele2 for the iPhone to be configured properly.
Your problem is likely that t-mobile uses another MCC/MNC code than 310260.

volkspost or aviegas, please feel free to jump in if I have explained any of this incorrectly.
