Exclamation Apple Say They Can Detect Downgrade!

Just been on the phone with Apple Iphone support because since the upgrade I can no longer send sms. The couldnt fix my problem so I said I would downgrade back to 2.2 and the guy told me it would show up on there system and would void my warranty.

I was planning on getting Cydia to work with 3.0 but now I'm not so sure, is the guy lying or is there a way they can tell, maybe thorugh Itunes???

That's bull, just Apple propaganda. Only if you return the iphone for repair make sure it is on factory default settings.

I have been doing some googling and it seems once you give them your serial code they can check there database. It would appear when you activate your O2 phone it must send some key information to Apple!

you can be 100% sure that every iphone activation sends all the details to the big apple.

they even send "metadata" containing MNC and MCC just randomly as soon as you enable push notification.

I was upgrading to a 3GS yesterday from a 3G, but I was using another line on my family plan so it involved some swapping about. The guy at the Apple store yesterday told me that the iPhone 3GS sim is now locked to a specific serial number so you can't swap it between phones. He said I'd have to go to an AT&T store and have them do all the switches for me. I detected the strong odor of BS. Sure enough, I swapped sims in the car and it worked fine. My point is, they'll lie to you up, down, and sideways just to scare you into not hacking your phone or really doing anything that's not explicitly stated in the users manual, but 99% of this is just BS that they are forced to say by AT&T or other carriers as part of their contract.

I guess they can "see" it in a mismatch of Baseband Version and System, that's the only way the "Genius" can find out a iphone was downgraded.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it though; just restore to the latest 3.0 if you ever need it serviced. I've never heard of anyone getting turned away from service for a legitimate hardware problem due to their software version(s).

Especially if you use iTunes and non-modified firmware to downgrade, I see no problems whatsoever.
