    Default Activation Problem

    I have a jailbroken iphone i baught 2nd hand, original carrier = 02

im running 3.1.2 which has been succesfully jailbroken, i resotred to custom firmware, not had any problems, ive als oran blacksn0w.

the problem im having is althou the phone recognizes o2, vodafone etc... im getting no signal, however ive partly found a solution....

if i put in an orange sim card, i get the same problem, but if i put the orange sim card into another phone, wait a sec for it to get a signal, then transfer the simback to the iphone ... it works, however if i swtich off the iphone, turn on airplane mode, or simply lose signal, i have to once again remove the sim to another phone, then back again to activate. strangely this sim-transfer method doesn;t work with vodafone or o2.

if anyone has any ideas as to why this is or how to fix it, would be appreciated, real pain if im out and lose signal.

    kind regards

Sounds very much like it is an IMEI blacklisted phone.

i was beginning to consider that the IEMI was blacklisted, until i got it to work on Orange, once i transfer the sim from one phone to another, it works fin, calls, texts, etc ... until signal is lost.

this surely would not be possible if the IMEI was blacklisted? according to what ive read on the net, the UK imposes a shared blacklist database across all UK networks so i figured if it works on Orange then surely it can;t be blacklsited, i dont really want to pay 19.99 to find out online

Different carriers implement the IMEI blacklist differently and I am pretty sure this is why you get this behaviour with Orange. Similar behaviour with Orange has been mentioned in this forum before.

    From: http://www.unlockme.co.uk/blacklist.html
    Orange & O2:
If you place an active orange or O2 SIM into a blacklisted handset you phone will not show any signal strength at all! If the handset is a Nokia then a "SIM card registration failed" message will also be displayed. If your handset is an Ericsson then an "Invalid Mobile" message will be displayed. For most other manufacturers the handset will simply show no signal!

    Vodafone & T-Mobile
If you place an active Vodafone or T-Mobile SIM into a blacklisted handset, the phone will appear to function perfectly UNTIL you try to make an outgoing call. When you try to call out from the handset you will hear a sequence of beeps and then the call will be dropped!!
In the UK it is really worth it to always ask the seller for proof the phone is not blacklisted. It costs a few for you to confirm 100% that it is blacklisted and that really is a service the seller should be forced to offer.

As almost all IMEI blocked phones are blocked as a result of theft/fraud/insurance fraud and it is illegal to own IMEI unlocking tools in the UK discussion of ways to bypas IMEI blocking are not welcome on this forum.

hmm, well i would hope this problem isn't due to a blacklisted imei, and im not interested in breaking the law, but surely the solution to bypassing a bad imei isn't to simply put an orange sim into a working phone then transfer to a blocked iphone each time you lose signal?? is there any other possible flaws or such that could be casuing this error other than bad imei??

definately blacklisted pal, bought a 3g from ebay and it did the same, but when i inserted an orange sim just taken from a working orange phone and inserted into the iphone which was turned on, the iphone worked until the signal was lost, so i called orange and checked with them and the iphone was blacklisted, sorry to deliver bad news.

probably not ethically correct but why not try trading with someone in the US?
