Default 2G: Why did me unlock resist the 3.0 Update?

    hi

    okey, i had a iPhone 2G, software 2.2.1.

i once did the hardware unlock (geohot), then got the iPhoneSIMfree unlock, and since then done the unlocks with PwnageTool.

now i wanted to update to 3.0.1, just plugged the iPhone in, hit "Update" in iTunes (not restore), and waited (took a shower in the meantime).
when i came back, my iPhone was ready activated, unlocked with 3.0.1

Now my question, why didn't i have to re-unlock it again?

    -geohots hardware unlock
    -iphonesimfree
    -"update"-button instead of restore

which one could if have been?

There is no baseband update, so unlock remains
