Default 2g problems - wifi & Restoring to stock firmware?

I have an old 2g 16gb phone that I had jailbroken and unlocked with RedSn0w on iOS 3.1.3. The wifi quit working months later and I wanted to see if it was a software issue. Resetting network settings or All settings did not work. So I proceeded to restore the phone as I would if I were going to give it to an AT&T user. I did a restore in iTunes 9.1 of the stock 3.1.3 firmware, which worked. I got to the slide for emergency state. I then put an inactive AT&T sim in and connected to iTunes to see if it would invite me to activate for AT&T. It would not go to that screen on connecting to itunes. iTunes showed the phone and the controls for syncing. How do I get it to fully go back to wanting to be activated for AT&T.

If I could get it to be fully AT&T ready, my next question was going to be, how should I get past the emergency screen to use the device as a iPod touch in the simplest way? Would I need to jailbreak it again if I don't care about cydia and don't put a SIM in it. (I was wanted to do this so I could confirm that it wasn't my jailbreak/unlock that caused the wifi problem.)

Anyway, a little more about the wifi problem. Once I had unlocked the phone, it was fine a few months. Then all of the sudden, the phone could not see any wifi networks. When I try to connect to "other" network and enter the name and credentials, I get "Could not scan for networks" or "Cannot find network". This is for any network so its not a problem with my router. Any ideas about this problem and how to fix?

    Thanks in advance.

    Default

The wifi issue is a hardware issue. Last night, I put the phone into my freezer (turned off) in a ziploc bag and then in another grocery bag for 60 minutes, took it out, left it wrapped for 20 minutes, than opened it, turned it on and connected to my wifi without problem. The wifi was still working this morning. I wonder if there is something half off in the soldering, that the changes of temperature caused a connection to get better inside the device. If it goes out again, which I suspect it will, I will look into 3rd party repair options.

I still have the question about how I would get the AT&T signup screen to appear to fully reset a phone for passing on to an AT&T user.

Unhappy Iphone 2G 3.1.2 WiFi Problem

Hi. I have a 3.1.2 Iphone 2g jaibroken and unlocked with snowbreeze. The wifi will detect networks and connect but it does not remain connected only for a minute or two and the internet is not working. I tried to restore to 3.1.3, reset network settings and it still does not work. I want to restore it to 1.1.4 and repair the baseband with iEraser. What should I do? Thanks in advance
