Unhappy 2G iPhone Boot Loop After "Erase All Content and Settings" No Longer Able to Restore

I found out the hard way that clicking the "Erase All Content and Settings" button on the iPhone actually erases the OS from the device.

Unfortunately, before I knew that, I did this on a previously jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 2G running iOS 3.1.3. Of course, this resulted in the dreaded boot loop. I have been able to successfully put the iPhone into DFU mode (screen is off) and iTunes 10.6 recognizes it and says "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." When I select my custom ipsw file, the restore fails with the error "The iPhone 'MyiPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1600)." I believe this is because I am not in pwned recovery mode so I cannot restore a custom ipsw. So I tried to do the same thing with the standard Apple 3.1.3 ipsw and I get the same error. At this point, I'm not sure what I can do in order to get this phone operational. I would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks in advance.

Just a quick update for those who may have a similar problem. I was able to restore my ipsw by putting the iPhone into standard recovery mode. I was making to more difficult that I had to. All is well, iPhone has an OS, is jailbroken and unlocked.
