Default 1st Gen phone very slow after upgrade to 3.0?

Anyone else experiencing slowness on 3.0? I used PwnageTool to install 3.0 on my 1st gen phone. No issues with the install but everything is slow. Even just swiping the home screen to the next page it will stutter as it scrolls. Typing in any app is delayed by a few seconds. All in all, it's a pretty crappy user experience. Comparing my phone with my friends new 3GS phone it was amazing. We both loaded nytimes.com in Safari. It took 13 seconds to load on his phone.... it took 40 seconds on mine.

Just curious what other 1st gen iPhone users are experiencing.

Oh.. I haven't loaded any non-official apps on the phone. As a matter of fact, is there anything related to the Jailbreak that I can delete that might help? I don't really care if my phone is jailbroken.

Had the same issue, was due to fetch new data being set to push, with no data plan active on the iPhone (manually erasing APN). See:

Turning that off, and making sure that push notifications are disabled fixed it for me.

Seems a bit faster to me. Specially the keyboard, it's a lot more responsive than before. Ans Safari also loads up a bit quicker even through EDGE. Bringing up or switching apps also seems a bit snappier. This might change once I jailbreak and start customizing the OS

For me seems also a bit faster. All the applications opens and close faster than ever.
Also, Safari is a bit more stable.

After the update iTunes probably offered to "rtestore data from a backup". Did you? Or did you setup the iPhone as a new device? This is usually recommended cause you wont get outdated plist files and other garbage from your previous system version onto the iPhone...

I did restore from backup. Maybe that is part of the problem. I turned off push email and notifications and that seemed to help. Maybe I'll reinstall again but not restore the backup.

I always think of the iPhone as a computer: Once a big update is needed -> clean install.

If you synced before there is only a few things you will loose like sms and call history, stock settings and stuff...
