Default WTH! 64bit mode or 32bit mode??

Ok so I open terminal and run this command:

    ioreg -l -p IODeviceTree | grep firmware-abi

    and get this output:

    | | "firmware-abi" = <"EFI32">

So I edit my com.apple.boot.plist file and tell it to boot in 64bit mode:

    <key>Kernel Flags</key>
    <string>arch=x86_64</string>

then I run terminal again but still get the<"EFI32"> output.

Then I go to system profile and it shows this under System Software Overview:

    System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.2 (10C540)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 10.2.0
    Boot Volume: SNOW
    Boot Mode: Normal
    Computer Name:My Mac Pro
    User Name: username
    Secure Virtual Memory: Not Enabled
    64-bit Kernel and Extensions: Yes
    Time since boot: 16 minutes

So which is it?!?! 32bit mode or 64bit mode?!?! It seems to running snappier than Leopard.

Can someone shed some light on this?

    Cheers
