well, I managed to get a copy of iAtkos S3 burned, and borrowed an external DVD drive (reader only). However, now whenever I try booting from the DVD, I get to the Chameleon Bootloader, and it has no option to boot from the DVD :S just booting into the OS. I burned on the slowest speed possible..(took almost an hour) and I checked the md5sum of the file before burning :s

*edit* Have confirmed it is indeed the external drive that is the issue, it booted perfectly fine in my brother's laptop. will have to see what I can do about getting a DVD drive.

Managed to overcome the issue with the drive by using empire efi (ati) after expanding the iAtkos S3 DVD to my 500gb external with transmac. Booted with -v -x busratio=20 and installed sucessfully! Now to get sound/video/wireless working properly :> wireless top of the list, of course.

You're doing well for working out the problem.
Take it to 10.6.4 for better hardware support.

Well, I'm on 10.6.4 now, however I can't get my wireless card to work now. I use a Buffalo WLI-UC-GN USB wireless adapter that I had working at one point today, but after the update to 10.6.4 it no longer works (tried the same steps again, that I did initially found here: Buffali wli-uc-gn, no device! - InsanelyMac Forum )

got everything else working (including my 5850 @ full res and all) but wireless at this point in time is the only way my desktop can access the net, so it is sort of a must have

You're doing so well for getting SL to 10.6.4.
    Glad to hear it.

Well, the problem seems to lie in the USB use/detection, I think. as it won't detect that I've even plugged in the wifi device.
