Would it work to use a real apple hard drive with snow leopard on it and just put that hard drive into a pc?

You can try, but it probably will not work at all. This is custom install and you will have hardware that is nothing at all like what was in the mac. Need to have the drivers for all cards and chipsets for it to work. Then you have to deal with kernel panics when it fails to find anything it expected.
