Studio 1557 + snow leopard
Hello, I am new to these forums and I am wondering why my computer reboots whether I use Empire efi or the bootloader that comes with the snow osx distro. I have tried to boot off of a retail leopard dvd, a snowosx dvd and an external hard drive I installed osx on all with the same result. I get it to briefly flash and then it reboots my computer. I have limited bios settings I can adjust. I have a dell studio 1557 with a core i7 processor and an ati radeon 4570 gfx card. I can expand on that if need be.
Edit: I cant shrink my partition enough. I'll find a way some other time to get it back on. For now I can just try to be as informative as possible.

I am interesting in installing snow leopard on my studio 1557.
I already have installed 10.5.6 on my ASUS G1S but he's die.
Did the drivers for ATI 4570 exist?

) please let me know.

I have a SSHD with win7 64 bit installed. Not sure if that's what he does not like. Did anybody get it going?

So far I found out that Kalyway will boot and install. The only issue is the graphics. If I remember correctly to get the battery you just need voodoo battery.kext and I think it was the IH97 kext or something like that. You can then install snow leopard from kalyway if you made another partition. It will still reboot. I tried doing the 10.6.2 update and I think the added support for the core i7 processors on the p55 chipset has in turn added compatibility with the pm55.
After updating I was able to boot into verbose, but no desktop loaded and console mode froze with text input. I tried every form of SMC emulation and had no luck getting the desktop to load. No blue screen either it just hung up on some text. I can't really provide much further information as I have repartitioned my hard drive and don't have SL installed anymore. I would think it would be cool to run os x on this machine as it would run logic pro like a beast. Maybe someone else can take this limited information and come up with a solution for those of us that want to run os x on a platform with the mobile i7.

Which settings did you use to get kalyway to install? i have 10.5.2 and i cannot get it to boot after installation. I also have a dell 1557.

Same here: After the post install reboot, I got the message that there was no OS. Inserted recovery disk, and eventually marked the partition as active. When I downloaded Easy BCD, but the OSX disk was not recognized. When I added Mac, it was just adding C: . Kile S., how did you get it to boot. I would be happy with leopard, but even that won't boot.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have been busy with school. I just used the default settings and I was using 10.5.2 as well. Its possible if you got your machine later than I did it was a more recent bios enabled. I seriously doubt it installed the vanilla kernel, becuase I never got a vanilla install or any other distro to work. Also, if I get my graphics card to work in SL I'll post how I did it. Right now I'm booting to a black screen, which may seem dismal, but it means its at least trying to load the right kext. Just a warning for those of you using leopard, the only way you can supposedly make the 4570 work is with the pc efi method outlined on netkas's website. It also says that the mobility series is untested. I hope someone can find some of this to be useful. If you need more specific information, just ask.

Oh yeah, even if you have an easy bcd entry in NTloader you still need to install chameleon to your leopard partition. I used a mac to dl and install it on a usb stick and then downloaded chameleon from my windows partition. Then I hit F12 to boot off of usb. Kalyway has the ability to read ntfs volumes so just navigate to your dl folder or wherever you put it, unzip it and install it to your leopard partition.
