When you have a running distro of leopard on your comp you can show hidden files and install SL to your target partition with an installer cd OR iso/dmg file. You just have to mount it and go into system on the install disk/image. I tried a normal .mpkg install from there but it failed. This seems to be a common problem, as my brother install SL on his comp and had the same experience. I'm suprised that thats not very well documented. So just look for anything that isn't a printer driver in the system/installation/packages folder and install it. If you don't have a target partition you can use(say you just have one partition for leopard) disk utility to shrink the partition and the use the + button on the bottom to add a new one. Have a
day!
Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure -x is safe mode. Thats probably why the graphics kext isn't working. I always get the different boot flags mixed up though.

So now that 10.6.3 came out, has anyone found any new information regarding the ati mobility hd 4570 gpu? i've been looking around a little bit with no success but i really wish we could find a way to make it work with qe support

I'll try and work my mojo when I get the cash for a new dvd drive. Then I can reload Snow. OS X will be much better with opengl rendering. I was onto a solution for the problem before this happened. It will be a while before I get the $ for a dvd drive though. I think if I did what I did to get the lcd recognized and edit a dsdt to say the card is only 256mb it might just work. I just did a real hack and / to get the screen detected. I just compared the plists of the radeonhd.kext and the stock ones. As for reading a decompiled dsdt, its mostly just a crapload of scrolling. Of course, don't rely on me. Go see for yourself.

it seems no one get qe with this gpu yet
but have any of you got a framebuffer working for native resolution ?
this guy seems to have it : [12/18/2009 update]ATI HD framebuffer driver with src for test - InsanelyMac Forum

i ve removed ATI* from /System/Library/Extensions/

Wait, you used the beta? You might as well use 10.6.2 or snowosx with the 10.6.2 kernel. I don't know how well the 10.6.3 kernel works yet. Yes the framebuffer is working, its in my driver pack earlier in the post. There are detailed instructions to get it working and the kexts you'll need. Also, I struggled with the system rebooting for a while. The 10.6, 10.6.1 and beta kernels don't work with our cpu's. They simply don't detect the cpu properly and cause a reboot. This is the same thing that happens with AMD processors and any vanilla kernel as far as I know.

if i have a working 10.6.2 image, i guess i don't have to follow this step (?)

Don't just drag and drop the whole extra folder because I haven't included any of the chameleon themes and that would erase the ones the installer put there.
i can't find any new "extra" folder in sl ?

Then install the bluetooth package and run the bcm43xx script in terminal. After that build your mkexts for /extra/extensions and /system/library/extensions.
i used to install kexts with kext helper, im a bit lost with buildings ?
ive copied kext from your patch folder /system and /extra/extensions to sl /system/library/extensions
i chmod -R 755 /system/library/extensions/*
maybe i'm wrong ? or im missing sthg ?
anyway i boot sl with arch=x86 -f (to rebuild cache)
or -x arch=i386 (safe mode)
boot still freezes at different points
after acpi_smc_platformplugin::start --waitForService timed out
or just after
com_chucko_RealtekR1000: Ethernet address xxx
or
DSMOS has arrived
or after having loaded NTFS driver and looked for windows partitions
thanks so much for your great help !

i think chameleon is installed in leopard, not sl that might be why i don't have this extra folder on sl, i created it and moved pack extra files to both leopard and sl

i don't use arch=... anymore as i replace com.apple.boot.plist with yours
but still freezing at the same point
by the way, if you need to, you can send me your files at my pseudo @gmail.com so i host them :

New MAC OS install on Dell 1557
I am completely new to MAC OS, especially on a PC.
What are the steps required to get snow leopard on a dell 1557. I have got as far as making 200gb free.
What next? I have downloaded the Studio1557driverpack, but don't have a clue what to do with it!
Thanks in advance.
