I don't think my other post was clear enough. The pc efi injector method is only for SL. I doesn't seem like it works for mobility anyway. I'll try and see if a dsdt patch will help the situation.

Thanks for the reply Kile S. Your USB method for kalyway DID in fact work. One issue I am also having is of the Graphics Card. My main goal is to get leopard on the 1557. Of course having snow would be good, but for me not a requirement. One requirement is that the graphics card kexts be present. Not only do I have the 1080p screen, but I really need QE. As you may know, Final cut, even iMovie will not run without QE. With out the kext's the mac is not able to use the VRAM, so many softwares will not run. I am scouring the web for the kexts, but if anyone finds it, please post the link. As fellow owners, let's try to keep this thread active.

    Thanks again everyone!

The only thing I've managed to get working is dong's radeonhd.kext. None of the other methods worked. I do have sl up and running now, with wifi, partially working auidio, bluetooth and native res. For leopard you might be able to make voodoopower.kext to work for speedstep. I cant seem to be able to get speedstep enabled or my battery recognized. It always says the battery is at 0% You can at least get native res. and quartz gl, which will be slower as it uses cpu, but its something. To enable quartz gl in leopard or sl you need osx86 tools. Its seems in snow most of the features of osx86 tools don't work but the quartz gl enabler worked. For anyone wanting to use dong's kext with snow kitty you need to boot in 32-bit with the kernel flag "arch=x86" without the quotes. And of course to make that permanant you need that kernel flag in you com.apple.boot.plist file located in /extra. I hope someone figures out a way to enable quartz extreme on our cards. I really don't like seeing my slow, cpu rendered screensaver. It makes me a sad panda Oh btw, if anyone knows how to get voodoo battery working with a messed up acpi some advice would be greatly welcome. I read about a method for fixing speedstep using a linux codec dump. That seems pretty convenient considering I have a partition with ubuntu karmic on it.

I made a driver pack with instructions on how to install snow leopard with every thing working but quartz extreme, steedstep/turbo boost and the battery meter. It unfortunely is to large for me to upload on this forum. Also, if I made a bunch of little zips it would make everything unorganized and I would probably need to do multiple posts. If anyone can think of a good way for me to do this just say something. If I can get enough people as far along as me there will be more people coming up with solutions and it will benefit the community as a whole.

I forgot to mention that you need to get plist edit pro and set hwcursor to </false>. You could just use textedit but you need to be careful to not add spaces or move anything. Plist edit pro won't let you save if you make and error. At the moment I'm working on getting the stock radeonx2000 and ati4500 controller to detect my laptop sceen by editing the right lines in the plist. I tried adding the proper EDID into the x2000 kext's plist but no avail. It still boots to a black screen. From what I've read it might work via vga to an external monitor in its vanilla state. As for speedstep, turbo boost, sleep and the battery meter if someone can get the dsdt.dsl in my driver pack to compile without errors that might solve all those problems. If those two things happen we might end up with a nearly flawless hackintosh out of our studio 1557's. If anyone else can try to work on this so I'm not the only one that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and post if you get any of the nonworking things up and running. With vanilla install you might have to remove some extra kexts that I haven't specified. I used snow os x. I should have mentioned this in the instructions but I just thought about it now.

hey kile, you say you got snow leopard up and running with wifi and all on your dell studio 1557? can you explain to me how you managed to do this? the only version of mac i can get running with like nothing on my laptop is kalyway's 10.5.2, i've tried ideneb v1.6 lite, ipc osx86 10.5.6, and loading snow leopard with rebel efi boot loader. can't manage to get any of them to work, not even able to get to the installation screen, they start to boot to the dvd and then just reboot midway through the lines of codes that come up when i hit f8 and type -v. any suggestions? since you say you got yours up and running, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

You can partition out a small partition for kalyway using disk utility and then another for snow leopard. Once you install kalyway you have type "defualts write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE" and then "killall finder after that to make hidden files visible. Then go to /system/library/packages and install all the sl packages the right partition(exluding the printer drivers). A normal install using the .mpkg wont work. It always fails on the printer drivers. After that you need to use a program called pacifist to install the 10.6.2 update to that same partition. I used the snowosx install, not vanilla and that still fails with the .mpkg method. I doesn't matter if you use vanilla or snowosx though, as long as you add all the kexts and packages from my pack to the right place after you do the update. If you have any questions about multiboot setups or bootloaders just ask. I do my best to help you.
