Still waiting for root device
Hello all. I've seen this error almost everywhere but haven't been able to solve it using any recommended methods. I have 1 SATA disk drive, 1 IDE disk drive, and 1 IDE HDD. I have tried changing which drive is reading the disk to no avail. I have changed the master and slave jumpers for each device and still getting errors.
I was thinking of putting the install on my USB drive but after doing that I was greeted my an immediate kernel panic, so I assume I did it wrong.
Any other tips on how to get rid of this would be appreciated.

Hi,
It looks like you did your homework well
That method only works if the system/boot files are injected with the correct/functional kexts for your chipsets/controller.
In this case, it's better to post your specs, CPU, south bridge chipsets, SATA controller along with method of installations.

I'm currently using an SiS761GX motherboard to try and install this. I remember I had OSX on this PC previously but it was quite a while back and I dont remember having these kind of issues.
It is the same exact setup as the one listed under this wiki.
HCL 10.5.6 - OSx86
(the first one)
He seems to have it running using an iPC build. I have currently tried iDeneb 1.4, and the 10.6.0 disk by Hazard.
So Im going to download this iPC version and hope I get something out of it.
But in case I do not are there any ideas on what I can do?

I did not have time right now to look at your post info. I got to run.
But just real quick, iPC 10.5.6 PPF6 seems to have lots of kexts/drivers that you may try.

Well I've been able to get past the root device error on the disk.
But now iPC installation fails about 1/4th of the way through.
iDeneb installs fine but gets "waiting for root device" on first boot.
I would like iPC to work since that has most of the kexts I need in it..
I tried burning it twice and no luckk

The waiting....error is from missing/incorrect chipsets/controllers drivers, and in your case it's the Sis package, maybe? It will tell you what it uses for your hard drive. So make sure that you choose those drivers during custom selections, for both iDeneb or iPC.
So whichever works then install it, and erase your partition every time for a clean installation as this sometimes causes the installer to hang.
Good luck
