Really? A few others told me the ATI HD5850 wont work with hackintosh let alone the 5730
-
here what i found from googling.
HD 5870 installs fine. without kext. OS version 10.6.2.
Fan speed is somewhere in the middle.
Well have tested my installation using this very nice and easy to use guide:
Asus P6T SE Retail Snow Leopard Installation Guide [FLASHDRIVE], Step by Step Instructions
Thanks to all that helped writing it and making it possible. Now onwards to my findings regarding my HD5850.
All went well except that my resolution is 1024 x 768 but that is a driver thing. I really hope drivers for the 5xxx will be released someday. But a 9600GT is on it's way for me so I will give that a try.
I got an ATI 5850 and it works but without acceleration, I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.0 haven't updated to 10.6.2 . It is running without kext so in VESA 3.0 mode, you can change resolution up to 1920x1200 but you will get underscan in all resolutions.
For having full hardware support we need Apple ships the newer Mac Pros with a 58xx card. Maybe we have to wait 2 months or so.
This card is fantastic, on Windows and Linux works very well in every res with detail to the max.
I've installed snow retail on my P5Q PRO and updated to 10.6.2. The 5870 obviously work only in 1024x768 without QE.
I'll wait ...

Both toys are now running 10.6.2 fine
Apart from the Asus N61J, the USB 3.0 is not detected/recongnized

There's so far no official (or unofficial) support for either USB 3.0 or SATA 6Gbps in OSX.
The ports still work, but not at full speed.

Have you tried EFI Rebel Bootloader by Psystar on Konteudos.info or a tutorial here "Asus P6T SE Retail Snow Leopard Installation Guide [FLASHDRIVE], Step by Step Instructions"?
i think with a little cooperation we could make this lovely machine work on mac
