For keyboard/touchpad, get VoodooPS2controller.pkg version 0.98 and make sure you delete applePS2 and appleAPCIPS2nub.
SleepEnable kext would be the last installed kext AFTER you've updated your system to the latest OSX system/kernel version to prevent possible KP.

Thanks for the keyboard/mouse update, I will try it in a few, can there be a reason why SleepEnable is missing on my system and it still crashes when I update and is there a fix for my WiFi

As for your system crash, a KP?, there are many possible causes, and without some clues/screenshot/description, it would be very hard to tell.

When Chameleon is installed, it will also create the /Extra folder for you, where you can have all the patches/fixes and drivers/kexts along with an extra boot.plist that Chameleon will call first during booting process.

Apple software updater won't touch that /E folder and its contain, as vanilla/retail installation would put all kexts in /S/L/E, so the best way is to leave as much vanilla as it can be.

]I successfully installed stable standard (needs few tweaks) SL 10.6 with EFI Generic on XPS 1640. Things you need: clean HD, CD with EFI generic and retail SL DVD
Steps;
• Disable all boot option expect for CD/DVD drive
• Boot system with EFI by using F12 and selecting CD/DVD drive (follow screen direction)
• Eject EFI CD once done booting and place retail SL DVD
• Wait for approx 10secs and hit F5
• Once you see SL retail DVD use safe mode (-x) to install SL. Remember to hit enter after –x.
• Use utility to format your HD and create multiple partitions should you need multiple OS afterwards.
• Install SL which will not take more than 30mins after which you will get installation failed error message.
• Restart , hit F12, remove SL DVD and boot with EFI CD
• Select the OS X drive and boot on safe mode (-x)
• Remove all ATI Kexts and restart
• Boot with EFI CD and select OS X drive, hit enter
• Open EFI CD, read the read me text and follow direction.
Hope this helps and I will keep updating as I make progress.
Important information to know: At the moment I have not been able to update, regardless of the update I still get double panic error even with deleting SleepEnable. In event your touchpad doesn’t respond use external mouse.
Currently am searching for fix for WiFi, webcam, Ethernet, HD3670 kext / graphics workaround and misc as well as workaround to update to possibly 10.6.4.

I’m smoothly running SL 10.6 on XPS 1640 with Ethernet, Bluetooth, touchpad/keyboard and booting fully functional without KP. Still working on graphics fix, sound, WiFi, webcam and a good way to update without KP. Currently it cannot play DVD; I know it maybe because of the Video card/missing graphics kext.
Note: All my attempts to update have ended in crash/KP even with SleepEnable deleted.
