Toshiba a300/c01 kernel panic help?

hey all,

Firstly I would like to say if this is in the wrong section im sorry, but this is the forum most applicable to my problem i think.

I have a toshiba a300/c01 with the following specs:

Satellite A300 C01
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.24GHz
Video: ATI – HD 3650 512mb
Memory: 4gb DDR2
BIOS: Insyde H20 Version 1.9
WIFI: Intel wifi Link 5100 AGN
Chipset: Mobile Intel PM45 Express Chipset with 82801IBM I/O Controller Hub (ICH9M) i.e PM45 ICH9M



I have created a bootable usb flash drive using a guide from lifehacker but the problem is when i run it I goes to a kernel panic screen. Is this a hardware error or am i doing something wrong? Either way what can I do to fix this issue?

also worth mentioning that i am currently running windows 7 and wish to dual boot.

Wonder if you did read the guide carefully before following it?
For booting with win7, you can review threads from dual booting section.

hey ratvn thanks for the reply,

I followed the guide to a T and it starts installing and gives me the screen saying press any key for startup options but from there it just goes to a terminal sort of screen and gets half a page done before the kernal panic thing comes up. I am confused as all hell and have looked everywhere on just about every site for an answer, although im thinking it may be my hardware I cant be sure, and even so there might be a way around it :S

Ok,
Did you notice that guide is only generic for method, but very particularly for GA EP45-UD3P?
Your hardware board/chipsets/SB are different, so while the guide is applied, some of those files are not very compatible (although you're still able to use many of them).

ah ok then, so where do i have to go to find the files i need etc.?
and how do i go about adding them to my bootable usb?

Wouldn't you think that your questions are a bit too hard for me?
You're asking help on a guide that I didn't write or use, and post installation support files for a hardware system that I don't even own (if I do then it's easy to send to you).

Alright. What OS's that you're running on the target machine? The Toshiba that you intended to install SL on.

What did you use to put SL image onto your USB with?

Well curently i am only running windows 7. I used disk utility on a mac to create the usb.
Sorry i just thought you may have known the specific patches/kext i might need to run os x with my machine and its specifications, or know where i could find that sort of information. Thanks for the help anyway :) i apreciate it

No problem.
Some of the files needed will be very specific to your system, and therefore have to be generated using your Toshiba.

You can try something real quick. Who knows, you may be the lucky winner.

In the root of your USB/installed volume, there should be a file named DSDT.aml (if you've followed the guide). Locate and delete it (or move it to a folder if you wish), and see if it goes any further.

that will require a mac to do wont it? when i put the usb in my pc it just says unformatted disk. Ill have to wait to borrow my friends mac first. ill let you know how i go. Thanks for this :)

Of course win7 can't read HFS+ without utility. I think Macdrive is the one for reading HFS from windows. Sorry, I have both so there is no need to use the utility.

Then you can reinstall it to see. If not then you will need some software/utility for windows to generate that DSDT file while running your Toshiba in windows.
There are utilities for it, but I don't have any link at the moment. At least, that is the very specific file needed for your system. Other files from that package are also for EP45 that you can't use, beside a few OSX patches, but it may not cause much trouble leaving it there for now.

If you can search for Macdrive then you can do it within windows.
