Still waiting for root device (yes/no)

First, I have three machines here at home: a netbook atom 250GB (2/3 Windows 7 - 1/3 MacOs), a Notebook Centrino Duo with MacOS X iDeneb 10.5.8 and a PC AMD X2 with 4 HDs: 3 SATAs e 1 IDE. This last one is my trouble. I have installed on it Windows 7 (SATA) and dual boot with MacOs iAktos v7 10.5.8 (IDE), who is realy slow to load. The only distro that i could not receive the message "still waiting for root device", with the same BIOS setup, was iAktos v7. All the others stoped during installation. If i try to load Darwin with rd=disk0 or rd=disk0s2 (where iAktos is installed), i have a kernel panic. This is happening also with Snow Leopard by Hazard (10.6.1-10.6.2).

I would like to know if, because it fails with one distro and do not with other, if i can "build" one for SL who can works (and how to do it), or if there is any way to install SL from inside my MacOs Hackintosh 10.5.8. Or anything else...

My BIOS allow me to setup this features: ASUS M2A-VM HDMI

have you try patching cpuid (for amd) and use dsdt.aml ?
it will make your osx booting much faster..

No i didn't and i have no idea what is it for.
Could you help me and explain how to do it and what is it for?

Hi there,
I have the same M2A-VM board as yours. AMDx2 2.5Ghz OCed to 3.12Ghz. I installed Ideneb 10.5.8 and from that installed retail SL with very minimal modification. They both run beautifully. I also had the same problem as yours at first, V7 is so slowwwww, and the other distros did not like my computer at all.
What I did was temporary removed all drives except the installing IDE DVD, and borrowed a SATA hard drive (2 small partition, about 15-20GB each, formated HFS+,one for 10.5.8 and one for SL, just enough to hold OSX and later hold the image of the other partition to be cloned to my IDE drive), and then installed Ideneb with Chameleon RC4. I had little trouble with the onboard ATI, QE/CL not working, so got a Nvidia 8400GS 512Mb, QE/CL worked beautifully, onboard LAN, Audio also work well.
You can also install OSX to a USB, then clone it to your hard drive. It's so much easier to have 2 OSX in one system for repair/maintenance just in case something goes wrong with one, the other can be booted up to perform repair.
I used copy cat to make a backup of each OSX then restore it to the IDE drive, did not notice any performance difference between SATA and IDE.
