Well, I've never messed with the jumpers before so I was waiting to find out if that's what needed to be done. How do I find out if my DVD is IDE? My HD is SATA. HP model number is a6130n. I'll look again at the specs. Still waiting for the unmounting disk on the toshiba LOL

Try with boot options: -x -v (and/or busratio=20 cpus=1) see if your desktop goes any further.

Well the DVD is still in the intel, should I just power it off? It's in the middle of OH WOW, it now says preparing to erase. Guess I'll wait if it's not going to take much longer, that way it's there too LOL. Whatever that does for me.

Should I do -x AND -v together? where would I put busratio=20 cpus=1 with that stuff?

Those are boot options, and you could do them together, next to each other with a space in between.
According to your specs, your DVD is SATA. So find out what options for BIOS under SATA, is anything with AHCI (that is what needed to avoid the waiting for root error). You may need to use an IDE DVD drive with your system. you do have an old one, don't you.

No AHCI options... I don't have an old dvd drive either except for the one that I pulled out of my hp520c earlier LOL. Hopefully those options will work, burning the dvd right now since the toshiba is just "preparing to erase" LOL

I just had an extra strength 5 hour energy too. oops.

sadly http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...ct=70996#N1059 doesn't tell me anything about anything, so I guess I'll go see what the drive itself says

LOL, that intel will be kind of slow, so be patient. If you can get your desktop going then it easier. Using that guide on another comp means more steps/problem to work out. But if you don't have any other way around then just give it a shot.
I have to take of for a while but will be back. So let me know how it goes. It will be good experiment for you though. LOL.
