I've looked for about 3 hours today, over google, and here. I want to install it on my Local Machine, on a partition I will create.

whell, it is very dangerous, Because you can destroy you boot partition, and you can't have snow retail installed on that, because retail only works on GPT and windows on MBR.

So in other words, I would have to install it as the main OS? Could I install it on an external HD?

yes, you can, but it would be good if you disable your hd or remove (the internal)

download retail version, and a cdboot, put cdboot on the drive, bootup, switch the cd to Snow DVD press F5 or F8 select snow dvd, press enter, make a normal installation.
