Installing OSX onto old Compaq Presario
Hi all, obvious from my post count, I am new here. I had a few question concerning an old PC I just have lying around; collecting dust, sadly...
The questions are, will OSX Snow Leopard (or lower; it doesn't matter much to me) run on my old Compaq Presario SR1820NX? Will the specifications meet any of the requirements for OSX? I have upgraded the RAM, which I know won't be much of a deciding factor for this machine success in running the operating system.
I would just really like to do something with this computer -- besides selling it -- and not just toss it or recycle it... I have a Dell Laptop I work on (with Windows, because I am currently going to school and don't feel comfortable trying to install OSX on this computer) and would like something to just mess around with and get introduced to this kind of stuff... sort of like a science project. LOL =D

I am not too sure that I would bother trying to put any version of OS X on this, although you could try one of the "distro's" just to give you an idea (iDeneb, Kalyway). But, I still do not think that you would be happy with the performance.
You could try any of the Linux distributions, there are several that are more geared towards low end systems.
But......
I would be more tempted to turn this into a NAS backup. Look at: FreeNAS, CentOS or ClarkConnect or any other Linux or BSD distro. I mention these three first as they are intended for this sole purpose and I have used them myself. Just throw a couple of huge hard drives into the box (dirt cheap these days) and off you go.

That is actually very helpful, I've been wanting to get a NAS, and have been pricing them... this raises another questions though. = ] Do they make Wi-Fi cards that are compatible with that motherboard? My router is on the other side of my room, and I don't want my dog tripping and dragging my router (or PC) into the floor. LOL. = )
EDIT: Wow... I'm so dumb. I totally forgot that you can get Wi-Fi USBs... My brain is just not working...
