installing mac os x on dell xps 700 yes another noob thread
well as it says up there. i know very little about the mac os so i want to learn and see if i like it. i have been trying for 2 days with 3 or 4 different versions of the os. trying to do a dual boot setup on a 250gb sata hdd. i have the hdd partitioned into 2 equal sizes , and windows is installed on my first partition. on the second partition i have (as far as i know) successfully installed the mac os with the ideneb iso i found... well you know where. but when i use either empire boot disk or easy efi to boot to my mac os i get kernal panics and i dont know why. as far as i can tell my hardware is compatable. i will post my setup in a bit untill then is there anything that sticks out to any of you that i'm doing wrong?
if need be i have no problem formating my hdd and deleating my partitions and creating new ones.
here is my info

well seams there was some sort of problem and the install crashed and wouldn't let me do anything. so back to the drawing board and try a different version to install.

well after no success the past couple of days i am not giving up, i have 4 new versions of Snow leopard hazzard 10.6.6 and 10.6.1, kalyway 10.5.2 and a ideneb version. from what i'm after learning i think i have to try different kernels. i have a intel pentium D processor so i think i have to try vanilla kernel. if that dosnt work i will have to try some of the others on these disks. i also read somewhere that when starting i might type -x for safe mode -v for verbose and cpus=1 for using i core of my processor. so to use all of those i type "-x -v cpus=1" without the quotes. i will be trying in the next couple hours and i will be reporting my findings. WHEN i get this to work i will be trying to make a tutorial for helping others with the same pc or system setup that i have.
wish me luck

well i managed to get a little further ahead. i now have windows 7 and my mac os installed. do have some problems though.
1) installed easybcd and and added a new boot entry, no problem. restart my pc and i get the choice of windows and mac. when i click on my mac i get a kernel panic KERNEL TRAP. BUT if i use a easy EFI disk to boot everything is fine. well fine-ish.
2) some kind of mouse issue. i can move the mouse on my mac os desktop but cant click on anything. if i wait for 2 or 3 min it works. dont know why, but that's it.
3) my network card is a broadcom 5751 on-board and i cant seen to find the kexts (drivers) for it.
4) same for my sound card. creative soundblaster x-fi.
5) as well for my dvd drives.
thats the issues that i know about. and will try to fix them and post here with my results.
one more thing that gets me is there have been over 180 views and not one other person has tryed to help or leave a comment. i dont expect to have someone hold my hand, but some help would be great.

any one offer any help with these?

i thought the fourms were about helping each other? over 200 views and no one wants to help. i understand that people might have the same problem, but someone that has viewed this thread has to know some way to help. so much for being helped and passing it on to others.
