Question Installing Leopard On Dell Studio 1640

    Hey Everyone!

I have been trying for months to install the Mac OSX operating system on my Dell Studio xps 1640. I am past all the partitioning and stuff like that, my main problem is when it comes to the actual installation. I DO have a copy of Leopard so i can either go about installing with the retail version or through a distro. I would prefer retail because of the advantages of the software updater.... but at this point ill do anything to get this finally up and running. I first attemted with mulitple distros. the only one that ever really worked for me was the iATKOS v7. I would go through the install and then, after formatting my partition to the Mac Journal extended and selecting my kext (which im also not very sure of), the installation would proceed and then stop at 30%. it would sit at the 30% marker for about 5 minuetes before the an error message comes up and says that the verification of the disk failed. I then took a break for a few months and backed out of attempting to install. just recently i took advantage of the Boot 123/retail disk method. I downloaded the Boot123.iso and everything seemed to be going smoothly. I would get to the apple and it would load all the way up to the point to where i could even see the purple and black space background..... but then it just sits there for hours with a spinning beach ball. Thats as far as i can get. Therefore, that is why im asking for advice on how to preform this installation! My specs are listed below! Thanks!!!!

    Specs:
    Dell Studio XPS 1640
    Windows 7 (x64) Home Premium
    Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 (2.66 GHz)
    4GB RAM 1066MHZ, DDR3, 2X2G
    Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Minicard
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670
    HL-DT-ST DVDRWBD CA10N ATA
    Integrated Webcam
    Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN
    Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet
    IDT High Defention Audio
    HDMI jack
    Standard PS/2 keyboard
HID Compliant mouse -or- PS/2 Compliant mouse

I feel your pain since I experienced the very same problems with my own 1640. Unfortunately, as far as I know the ATi 3670, intel 5100 wifi does not work on a mac OS.

i have same config more or less 6G RAM 2,4 GHz CPU core 2 duo
i need in one mail the link to Boot123.iso that you used(all mines for Snow leopard did not suuccess) because
i got still wating for root device, stops at VoodooHDA,

    for you to work
    boot with the flag
    -s

    then do these:

    /sbin/fsck -fy /
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    mkdir /Backup
    mv /System/Library/Extensions/ATI* /Backup
    reboot

should start normally, no more video artifacts, with generic vga driver by default
but no QE/CI enable because no driver support for ATi 3670
