the first thing most new hackintosh users do is look for a complete guide to install on their specific laptop, which i assume you did. However, this does not often lead to success
but when experience has been attained, the experienced hackintosh user begins to look for ways to load the install dvd (retail or distribution)
then install with the proper kexts that can successfully boot your system to the minimum. and include the kernel that can detect and use your cpu.

==========the main hardware people worry about for initial install are the:
~cpu
~mobo chipset
~power management
~maybe more
==========post-installation
~graphics
~audio
~ps2 keyboard/trackpad (if laptop)
~network interfaces (wifi/ethernet)
~and of course booting and rebooting
~there are also more.

i'm also not so knowledgeable, but i have been exposed for quite a while.
