Help with installing OSx on Inspiron 1720
Hello everyone,
I'm new here so I realize that my question has possibly been answered before, but I couldn't find anything right away when searching.
So:
- I'm trying to install OSx Snow Leopard on a Dell Inspiron 1720.
- I have no idea what I'll need exactly (except for the obvious Snow Leopard CD) so if anyone has some help for me, that'd be greatly appreciated.
- I made an attempt at gathering my specs (listed below).
Is there like a clear wiki which I can read?
Thanks already, all help is welcome!
SPECS:
Processor: Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T7500
Motherboard: Dell 0FP441 -> chipset: Intel PM965
Memory: 2048 MBytes DDR2
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
WIFI-card: Dell Wireless 1490 Dual Band WLAN Mini-Card
Sound; SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
Anything else I need?

For starter, try SnowOSX v3.5/3.6 or iAtkos S3, and may need some boot options to start the installer. There should be many similar systems if you do some searching.

Ok, I've spent a weekend trying and I can't get the bootloaders to work. It keeps giving me errors.
What is some good basic extra info I can try to put in?
EDIT: the bootloader is working and I'm in the install menu, but my mousepad/keyboard in the laptop don't work anymore. Will buying a USB-keyboard help so I can fix this later or do I have to reinstall?

Ok, now I need some serious help.
I've been trying to get everything installed, it didn't really work out and I reformatted to try again.
But now when I boot the laptop with a CD with iBoot/iAtkos/SnowOSX/... It doesn't respond/recognize? the disc and all I get is a black screen with a white _ blinking in the top left corner.
What can I do to fix this?
This is what it kinda looks like, with the _ blinking on and off.

Ok, I finally repaired my laptop and got OsX installed with most things working.
Now I'm looking for a way to get my touchpad working and maybe some other things to get the riplething working.
Can you guys help me with how I do this?

You mean with the black screen and all?
I literally spent hours figuring this out.
But what worked for me was the following: first i downloaded, burned and ran something called "killdisk" which whiped out everything that was ever on my hdd.
Then I downloaded and burned an MS-DOS cd image which I got here: MS-DOS Bootable CD Images | Boot Disks
5.0 worked for me.
Once it's running I first used "FDISK" to repartition my hdd (simply type FDISK when you can)
After that i formatted using "FORMAT" (again just type FORMAT after the A:\ or whatever it'll say.
-> make sure you burn the MS-DOS x.xx image with a floppy 1.44MB emulation.
After doing all this my laptop finally recognized my iBoot bootdisc and so I could finally use iBoot and then install Mac OSx Snow Leopard.
If this is unlcear or a bit chaotic, feel free to ask more info
.
